Imagine going to sleep at night and waking up in a new time era. For example, the 1950’s. What would your life be like? It would be very different from the structure of today’s world. One major change that an individual would experience a difference in would be their educational outlook and their career. In the past education, was not as prevalent as it is today and the dynamic of work has also changed. In todays world, work would be considered to have more collaboration, technology dependent, and would be considered more time pressured. Working in higher education or as a career counselor it is critical to be able to work with a variety of different individuals (age ranges, educational background, skill development, socio-economic status). …show more content…
Lori is a mom of two and kids who are in their upper twenty’s and recently just accepted the position to be the Manager of the Business Development Center at Lexus of Orland. She has worked for Lexus for over four years. Prior to accepting the BDC manager positon she worked in the same department as a Customer Service Representative. She has chosen to make this change because of the current issue her family has recently faced. Unfortunately, after being employed with the same company for over twenty years her husband was laid off from his career. Lori stated, “It was such shocking news, after being at a wonderful company for so long, and now this, it just was not expected.” Lori knew with her husband being out of work and searching for another job, (which can take sometime) that there needed to be a change for the sake of her family. In this case the change was taking on the BDC manager position which her husband and children fully supported. Lori’s children are both married and living on their own but she mentioned that it was very difficult for the children to hear the news about their …show more content…
One is you will never know what is going to happen in life. For instance, Katelyn mentioned that she was scared of loosing her job because it can be cut out of the school system or maybe a family member such as husband can loose their job. Also, the importance further your education. Although, furthering one’s education may not be for everyone, I feel that it can be extremely important to purse a career that you love and enjoy doing. I feel that this assignment is great in helping myself see that everyone is different and we will never know the challenges we will have to face when it comes to our educational and career
