Biomedical Engineering Statement Of Purpose

I was introduced to programming during my high school sophomore year when I signed up for a C programming class. I remember asking the instructor why are we writing so many lines just to print "Hello World". She smiled and replied, "Ajit, the objective of coding is not just to print this line, but to teach computers to think like us to help us with our daily life." I still had my reservations about the programming, but as days passed, I realized what the instructor meant to say. We are always surrounded by programs, simple sets of logic to guide us through day to day life, so let that be morning alarms or traffic signals.

Programming helped me develop an analytical approach towards life, which in return made me an inquisitive person. My curiosity about the technology field increased and so did my questions. Fortunately, I had people around to help me finding those answers. I find the field of computing very intriguing, there is always so much more to learn and implement to make our lives better.

As an undergraduate student, I spent an extensive amount of time trying to articulate why I should choose a particular calling over others. I am intellectually curious and prefer perceiving information in an interdisciplinary manner. Thus, the necessity to choose one or two majors imposed a challenge. Studying at a liberal arts college reassured me in the idea that the fields I was primarily interested in – Economics and Political Science – are not isolated or restrictive. Both are based on a premise that there is a perpetual need to observe human behaviour in order to draw informed and sound conclusions about the world we live in.…
