The Importance Of The Club Young Life

Decent Essays
This first semester has been a truly enlightening period. I was introduced to weaknesses I never knew I had. While at the same time I learned to use my strengths to benefit my studies. This semester was trying, but overall I am thankful for it all. Overall, I learned a substantial amount from just a few months of being on campus. I realized quickly that I was no longer a big fish in a little pond. I came from a small high school that I was extremely involved in. So coming to a much bigger school with fewer activities was a shock to me. I did join a few clubs, but I could only join so much that wouldn’t interfere with my studies. I benefited most from the club Young Life. Through them I met most of my current friends. It was a great experience. …show more content…
I came into this semester believing I needed to know every detail of my future career. I soon realized that this was not the case. It is okay to not have everything figured out right away. Take the basic courses and see which ones you like the best. After that, meet with an advisor at the Olinde Career Center. I met with Joan Gallagher and she was a huge help to me in figuring out what my next steps should be. She also supplied me with numerous resources that also aid in that process which I had no clue even existed. Turns out what I thought I was supposed to be doing, wasn’t even close to what I should be doing. Also, make time for yourself. Be sure to study, but don’t neglect student club activities or even simply hanging out with friends. By participating in club activities I actually even met people that I study with now and made a few friends out of it. Finally, try to find your balance. Create a schedule that you can try your best to stick to. This will give you structure and the ability to get more done out of your week. If you have the ability to complete all of these things, you will have a great first semester and a promising future college

Dear Carolyn Boles Scholarship Committee, I have had a great first semester in college full of learning and meeting new people. I studied extremely hard the entire semester and was determined to get the best grades possible. My favorite class was psychology and I received a very good grade in the class, so I was asked to become a mentor for the class next school year. I also decided to work toward receiving a minor in health psychology because I loved the class so much. In another one of my classes, we learned about different health field careers in order to decide if nursing was right for us since it is such a competitive major at IUPUI.…

Widening your surroundings is essential in transitioning into college. By meeting new people and learning and interacting with people unlike yourself will help you in this transition. I so far have joined the club soccer team and have met so many people that I probably would have never met if I didn’t. It is no doubt the best decision I have made here in Oxford so far. I have also joined the Greek life on campus and automatically have 150 potential friends that I am now capable of making.…

This year has been a crazy one. I came from a public school, not knowing anyone, so I terrified and didn't know what to expect. I struggled with trusting others, time management and battling multiple tasks at once. Luckily, I had a lot of practice throughout the year. For instance when we had to record a News Show for Mr.Mora's class, I was faced with all of these problems.…

I can say, undoubtedly, that my first year at The University of Alabama was one which taught me a great deal about myself. As an out-of-state student from Rhode Island, the transition from a relatively small high school to a large university was unmatched to anything in my life prior. While Freshman year naturally contained points of difficulty, I was able to overcome these obstacles and become more well rounded as a result. Upon graduation from Alabama, I hope to enroll in medical school where I wish to eventually pursue emergency medicine. Although I was initially uncertain of my academic abilities in such a distinctly new environment, I have since grown more confident of my competency at the University.…

The first quarter of second semester is going really well. In the beginning of January, I got accepted into my first choice college, Sonoma State University, which makes me feel euphoric. I am very excited for what is to come, once school starts, in August. The campus has aspects of beauty ubiquitously placed all around.…

No matter how many movies you watch, no matter how many stories you read, and no matter how many questions you ask, college is never what you expect it to be; especially if you are not going away to a four-year school. All throughout their high school years, teens dream about moving away, gaining an independence, and maybe even joining Greek life. When I decided to go to a community college senior year of high school, I felt a variety of emotions. Sadness was the most prevalent emotion. I chose to go to a community college because I was paying for college on my own (as so many college students do).…

As I finish my first semester of college, there were few pieces of advice that I would have wanted to know going into my first semester at SLU. They are do not over stress, study, do your homework, and have fun. College is going to be a giant adjustment from high school. In high school, you are given a strict schedule to follow, but in college your schedule is all up to you. I would say that I learned the most about what it really means to have time management after this semester. Entering my first semester of college I had blind faith in the University, and myself because I believe everything would just work out and I would pass because it was meant to be. However, fate and hope are no the things to help you life as a new college student. The drive to wake up, attend class, finish homework, and accept the new responsibility that had been placed in my novice hands diminished greatly as the non-academic temptations became to creep in my head. I must be honest with you and let you know that I did cave and willingly participate in the sweet release of social experiences.…
