Reflective Essay: A Career In The Sports Industry

Improved Essays
In my college career which has been around 4 years now, these first two weeks are the first of any trimester or semester that instead of being enrolled in classes, I’m enrolled in an internship. This is definitely a change from the norm but at the same time it is exciting as well. It gives me the opportunity to use or observe some of the material that I have learned so far in my classes at Johnson & Wales in a real scenario. This internship allows me as well to gain much needed additional experience in the sports and athletics industry and will give me a more holistic view of the athletic program. It will allow me to see many different roles and see from various projects what parts of athletics I like or dislike since I am overall still open for the future to a variety of roles in the sports industry

I think in terms of preferences even in the small amount of time I figured out of the variety of roles and projects you can jump into in this internship what I prefer to do and what in the future I definitely won’t be looking into for a career. In this short experience so far I know that I’m not going to be in the sports media since I’m not the greatest writer and I don’t want to sports commentary.
I know I will be effective in my internship experience. I know this because I am dedicated to working hard and taking on various types of projects. One of the reasons why I picked this internship is it can allow to see roles, and I will be effective as well because I will be open to try out different roles. The third way I will be effective is that I work well in team environments, I am good working with others which in athletics is a common

Anyone who is entering into the workplace is required to be enrolled in a training exercise course to develop their skills on a job. The skills needed are taught or learned through experience hence why, having the opportunity to intern is a privilege; yes, everyone will have not the same experience but it will allow the intern to adapt to their new working environment and gain merely through hands on experience (Sweitzer & King, 2013). The intern’s role varies but inveterately their role in any company is to laisse with supervisor and other interns and staffs to fulfill the required task. During this time, the intern will have the opportunity to work along and with other clients underneath the supervisor’s guidance. As an intern, one my wonder…

MPH Competencies In the beginning I visualized opportunities for the YMCA such as: introducing new communication and education avenues such as Pinterest, taking a public health systems approach with Missouri State University to encourage use of Activetrax and the importance of nutrition, find realistic opportunities for the YMCA to enrich the nutrition education part of Activetrax with basic statistical methods, apply research principals to class count data, and develop public health interventions to evaluate Activetrax. These opportunities are mentioned as part of the expected MPH competencies for the internship plan and so they as well as three Discipline-Specific Competencies and three Interdisciplinary Core Competencies will be in the following…

Next three weeks of my internship were more intense than the last ones. Within that time I have a chance to edit two videos, one of which was shot by the creative director and me; and to work as a researcher on eight projects, some of which are in stage of pre-production and others are potential. The research was conducted for potential Inside Lens program for NHK, UK band TV show, and Panasonic screen promotion video. For Inside Lens, I researched for potential topics, which are Bear Bile medicine, Muslim community, Virgin Academy, sofure (sleeping friends), and Kakuhido group.…

When I first heard of the professional internship with the department of communication studies, I was uncertain if my job would even qualify. As it turns out my job as a massage therapist, is what the internship considered to be in the field of health communications. An internship is normally a work task a student completes after a series of classes to gain a degree in a particular field they think they’ll love, whether they still love it after they’ve completed that journey is based upon a multitude of criteria. Luckily, I have found that I quite enjoy fashion and working in retail throughout this internship at Dress Barn. Occasionally students find that what they thought they were getting into, is actually completely different than what they expected. Especially when reading about a profession on paper versus seeing it up closer in real life. When I started college, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study or achieve with my life.…

At the beginning of the semester while at my field placement, I noticed several staff members who appeared burnt out. Since that time, I set a personal goal to aim to lift the spirits of the staff members within the agency. I decorated the bulletin boards around the office giving the staff positive messages to view throughout their day. I also secretly left positive quote cards on their desks in efforts to further build morale around the office. While visiting the offices of the staff members, I have noticed the cards displayed on filing cabinets and taped to desk.…

I got the opportunity to do my internship at Houston Methodist West Hospital. I have been working for Methodist for the past 4 years in our registration department and out of those four years, I have had the opportunity to work with 3 different management teams. Although, each of my management teams delivered different methods on how to properly register a patient under 7 min or less, our goal we have always strived for was keeping our patient satisfaction scores at a high. Our organization implemented a strategy called AIDET, (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explain, and Thank you) to make this process work effectively. As our patient were very impressed with our ICARE values, (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence)…

I am writing to you today to inform you about my experience at the Sothern New Hampshire University Internship Fair held on campus on Wednesday February 17th, 2016. I intend to talk about my overall experience, what I noticed/ learned while there, as well as how the Internship Fair helped to further develop my articulation of the SNHU Business Competency, Professional Communication as well as my overall professionalism in a competitive business environment. First off, I wanted to inform you that I chose this experience due to the fact that I personally felt as though it would better enhance my articulation of the school of business outcomes, as well as further to enhance my professionalism in a competitive business environment more so than just having a meeting with a Career Development Center staff member. Prior to this event you asked that I attend, interact and then report back to you my overall experience. I attended the event, dressed professionally, with ten copies…

During this past spring, I did my Bucks County Community College Sport Management Internship at the Lower Bucks Family YMCA. According to the YMCA’s website in regards to their focus on youth development, states that,” At the Y, our sports staff, coaches and volunteers all share a singular vision of helping all youth reach their full potential in life. We leverage the excitement and passion around recreational and competitive programming to create a healthy outlet for children to gain new skills, develop a sense of team and connect with positive role model.” The overview of this unpaid (voluntariness) internship was for me to acquire knowledge and experience in this field when working. From the course of this internship, I oversaw numerous…
