Reflective Essay: My First Mock Trial

Improved Essays
My junior year of high school was the busiest year of my education, especially when I joined school programs like the mock trial. It all happened during a beautiful evening at Rancho Cucamonga Supreme Court, where I had to present my first mock trail case in front of the judge. My colleagues Mariana, Greg, and Rosa were in my team for that evening representing the suspect in the case. Our client was facing three counts for possession of drugs. My goal for that evening was to drop the two major counts that affected my client if he was found guilty. I was happy that afternoon because I was going to participate for the first time in the San Bernardino County mock trial competition. Right after school, I walked towards my mock trial coach office …show more content…
Diaz, because I remembered that I was working on the pretrial statement after I finished my class work in that room. When I approached Mr. Diaz classroom, I opened the door and ran to the desk that I was sitting on without asking Mr. Diaz permission. Mr. Diaz asked, “Daniel, what are you doing here?” I responded, “I am missing my mock trial opening statement. Have you or another student seen it?” Mr. Diaz reply, “No, you should check in the lost and found office.” My next step was to go to the lost and found office to check if anyone had turned in my statement to them. When I reach to the lost and found office, I heard the janitor’s deep voice. The janitor yelled, “kid, no one is in the room.” I stated to feel anxious because I did not found my statement. At that moment, I knew that I was …show more content…
Mill’s office as fast and furiously as I could. I walked into Mr. Mill’s office and everyone looked at me as if I had been beat up. They all wanted to know what happened to me. I explained to everyone that I was missing the pretrial statement. I notice that Mariana was pulling out her notebook out of her backpack. Mariana smiled at me and handed her notebook to me with full of notes. “Daniel, do not worry I have some notes I took when you were preparing the pretrial statement,” said Mariana. At the moment I started to relax a little when Mariana gave me a boost up. As soon as Mariana handed over her notebook to me, I pulled out my notepad and began to write a new pretrial statement. When I wrote the statement halfway through, I notice that Mariana was missing the other half of the

Since Officer McCorkle knew all of these attorneys from many years of court appearances, he went over to greet them. While talking with them, he noticed that one of the attorneys, whose name was Shoshana Lonstein, sometimes helped Ms. Hecht with her caseload. The familiar aroma filled the courtroom, a typically soothing blend of the fresh-cut grass directly outside, the familiar scent of freshly printed ink on crisp paper, and the relaxing perfume of the coffee we all depend on for survival. Since that day, however, that scent has lost its appeal. Just thinking about the trial makes me sick to my stomach. The prosecutor, Sharpe, renowned for his quick wit and skill. The opposition, Finch, was just as known for his sharp tongue and wide intellect.…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

John Jay School for Law is nestled on Seventh Ave, in the Park Slope neighbourhood. Through the heavy double doors the scanning machines sit, eagerly awaiting one’s approach as they gobble up your bags and other items, illuminating all the contents to the school safety officer before excreting them out the other end. Up the clammy steps to the second floor where all the classes cynically open their doors and suck you in. Forty minutes you sit, seated on the hard, coloured chairs behind trash filled desks, engaged in activities which aid in the improvement of your intellectual wellness. The time slugs by, as your pen is introduced to paper and your thoughts begin to walk; across the pages or out in the hall was.…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

When I began studying at the University of Montevallo, I had a background of high school creative writing and English classes, and one summer of a college English class. To be honest, I was terrified of jumping into my fall English 102 class. I felt I was unprepared for a serious college level composition class, and that I would have a strenuous time adjusting to a four-year university. However, as I walk away from my English 102 class I carry the understanding of writing a college level essay, undertaking research and completing a research and argument paper properly, and knowledge to prepare me for my other classes and profession.…

Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish.
