My Experience In Middle Class

Improved Essays
When I first started my internship, finding my role in the classroom was challenging. I began my first days as an observer and tutored during recess. Further into the week, I decided to step out of my comfort zone, challenge myself, and began to take on the role as the teacher, and that is when I began to grow as a person. Sixth Ward Middle School gave me the opportunity to work with children, which is something that I truly enjoy. Upon completion of my internship, not only did I grow as an educator, but I also realized the passion I have for working with children. During my time at Sixth Ward, I experienced what it’s like to teach children on a daily basis, and the stress that goes along with being a teacher. I’ve witnessed teaching beyond …show more content…
My main goal was to have the students participating more and motivated to complete tasks in class. During the first few weeks, this was challenging and I remember getting very frustrated. There was a point during my internship where I was at my widths end trying to think of ways to motivate the students because nothing seemed to work. However, one day I decided to reward the students with candy for completed assignments and I created reward charts for TeenBiz progression. Moreover, every morning we begin class with reading a PARCC like reading passage followed by questions before we assist students in their other core classes. So, I came up with assigning “teacher roles” and I’m amazed at how well this has worked. Basically, the student gets to pretend to be the teacher and engage the class in the student discussion. During this time, Mrs. Andrea and myself stand by monitoring them and intervene if necessary. This has been a wonderful idea and the students absolutely enjoy being able to do this role daily. It 's amazing to see students who did not participate in the beginning are now asking if they can be the teacher for the day. These students are not the same students they were on August 17th. They have progressed tremendously and I’m confident they will continue to progress throughout the year. I cannot express how proud I am of these students, and how far they’ve grown throughout my …show more content…
Six years ago when I started college I never would of imagined I would have dropped out of nursing school, switched my major to FACS and completed an internship teaching at the middle school I attended as a kid, but I’m right where I’m supposed to be. I realized there is no need to question myself if working with children is the career path for me because I 'm confident that this is my calling. Children are always finding fun, and I believe that as adults we sometimes forget what fun is. They also allow us to see things from a different perspective, notice things we once forgotten, and make us slow down again. I 've always believed that anytime someone is sad, angry, or frustrated there is no better cure than just spending some time with children. During the beginning I wasn’t sure on my career path upon graduating, however I have decided that teaching is the career path I will take. I love teaching, watching students learn and grow and someday my goal is to teach middle school science. This has been the most rewarding experience I’ve had the opportunity to do. On my last day at Sixth Ward the students cried, gave me hugs and were very sad that it was my time to begin a new journey in my life. In this moment I knew I had done my part. I knew I had changed their lives and little did they know, but they too changed mine.

I was an average middle schooler: average in sports, academics, and in confidence. Being average caused me to doubt my abilities and have a negative view of myself. This took a turn, however, when I tested into Algebra a year early during the beginning of eighth grade. When this happened, I felt above average, like I was finally excelling at something. This didn’t last long because Algebra was a tough class that tested my abilities and my mind to their capacity.…

After years of working in the Social Services field, I felt that my heart needed a hiatus from the gut wrenching circumstances in which many of the families I assisted found themselves in. I could no longer bear the responsibility of a child’s life in my hands due to the bureaucracy and conditions that plagued many of the people in my caseload. The stress of such an endeavor was affecting my health. I still wanted to be helpful and to try to make a difference in peoples’ lives but not at the expense of my own. I took some time off to reflect on what my next step would be and to be more available to my youngest child whom was entering the third grade at a different school.…

1 I come from a long line of educators and administrators on both sides of my family. Various relatives of mine have taught me to understand and appreciate the importance of education. This being the case, they have inspired my decision to be a teacher, preferably an elementary school teacher. After visiting the classroom a handful of times, I absolutely fell in love.…

As we’ve studied the different types of educational philosophies in class, I’ve been able to see which category my beliefs fall into and where that puts me in the teaching world. Throughout my educational career, my family and teachers have shaped my philosophy into a combination of both romanticism and progressivism. As a teacher I want to be able to help a student strive for self-fulfillment while focusing on individual student’s learning processes. Based on my ideals, I want for my classroom to be a place where my students can go to learn in a way that suits their personality, and in a non-pressured environment. I want to be able to engage my students and challenge them to learn based on their interests.…
