My Experience Of Going To College

According to Malcolm X, education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare it for today. Whether someone decides to go to a four-year university or a two-year community college, going to college period is destined to change life as you know it forever. Some people come to college not taking it as serious as it should be taken, or it actually ends up being best four years of their lives. My experience in college has been very humbling and mind opening. I have lost many friends and family that I thought that I would never lose, got a taste of the real world, and I now know what it feels like to be financially on my own. Although I am only a first semester sophomore, Norfolk State as already taught me a lot.
Going to college is a complete lifestyle change, and you begin to notice that some of the friends and family that were once a part of your life will not be coming along for the rest of your journey. A prime example, would be my former six yearlong best friend Tabitha. I met Tabitha in my sixth grade year while attending Fairfield Middle School, and ever since then we were inseparable, so I thought. I thought that I would never lose Tabitha no matter what I went through in life because of the close bond that we had, but it turned out that going to college would permanently ruin things. You begin to value any and everything you receive. You begin to realize how much being sheltered by your parents really helped in the past, since you receive a glimpse of the real world by being on your own. Unfortunately, I do not have the luxury of having someone to back me financially while I attend college like most students. My aunt kicked me out when I turned eighteen, so everything that I have I achieve on my own. Being in college helped me become humble and to become better at budgeting financial my income and
