My First Job Experience

Great Essays
During my time at Cincinnati State, I incurred a variety of different skills that were beneficial to taking on different tasks in the real world. For instance, in order to get my first job, I learned the process of applying, getting an interview, and landing the job. The process was not easy to forgo as I spent countless hours trying to perfect my resume as well as my scripts if I landed an interview. There are many different techniques and roads to take when it comes to work. I may have learned a lot at Cincinnati State to help prepare me for this job, but there are a few things that I had to physically learn or adopt and those were the day-to-day procedures. There was a daily routine in the restaurant business. At the beginning, I was …show more content…
Each day I had to show up an hour before dinner service to get my tasks done. I would replace the menus with a daily features list that chef would compile that afternoon. After that, I would blow the patio and change the linens. Next, I would clean the bathrooms and replace the hand salts. Next, I would walk around to make sure the servers did their job by straightening silverware and tables. There were not many classes that helped out with my co-op experience except FYE and Business Practices. These two classes taught me how to use time management skills effectively, how work ethics plays an important role in the successful business operations, and how organization is important. Problem-solving skills were extremely common, possibly even in the daily routine. I used my skills to make sure that the guests were happy. The guests were happy if the kitchen was happy. If the kitchen was happy the servers were happy. If the servers were happy then the guests were happy. I made sure to space out seating times, comfort guests when they were on a wait, and generate a calm and polite message if someone without a reservation was unable to get a table. Every day I have to be …show more content…
I found that I am able to cope with stress much more easily and I am a wiser man because of it. Stress does not break me down as much as it used to. I definitely grew as an employee because I am more passionate to what I do, and I want to drive myself to be better. I know how to interact with people and co-workers better. Like I said before, two classes helped me with my job. Those classes were Business Practices and FYE. FYE helped me with time management, organization, and even a little bit of business ethics. Also, Business Practices helped me with the process of getting hired. It helped me with filling out my resume and talking to employers about what I want to do. Another class that helped me was a class I took with Otis Williams. It helped me with team skills that I used sometimes. We would do team activities during his class, which somewhat helped. The aspect that I am most interested in in my field is starting my own business, the entrepreneur aspect. I would like to know more about how to start a business, what different steps and how much capital it takes. There was not much technical expertise to be gained, but I learned how to use the reservation book to keep the restaurant good for the night. I learned the system called seat me which is the software that is used for reservations. I am definitely better at communications with people. They improved drastically over the last 3 months. Daily, I would

Project 2 contains information developed from the Pearson Higher Education Self-Assessment Library. A series of assessments were completed. The most significant information I learned is contained in step 1. Part I gave insights into my personality, that I am an agreeable person with a Type A Personality, and that my job satisfaction is overall low, even though I have high emotional intelligence and considered a leader overall. Part II shows that I need improvement in listening, faith in others, and disciplining skills.…

I, professional Professionalism is a huge word composed of small acts. It’s not been a long time since I graduated from college and just 2 months ago when I signed my contract to this company. There are lots of changes since then. I was the “I-don’t-care-as-long-as-I-passed” person, the rule unto myself, I am the “go have fun as there is time”, I am just representing “me”. I was overwhelmed when I got hired by this company, I mean, first job ever!…

The graphs above are just a small portion of the great variety of people who attend Harrisonburg High School. The first graph illustrates the different ethnicity groups the students of Harrisonburg High are a part of. The data was collected by the school district and only includes six subgroups, one of which has a population of zero (Hawaiian).…

My learning from my Composition II was not so much about learning concepts, but it was more about improving what I already learned last semester, and adding onto it. Compared to last semester, my learning this semester came from paying attention to details, following the rules, and adapting to a new teaching style. While last semester, my learning came from new concepts like ethos, pathos, logos and knowing what they are and how they work.…
