However, as I headed into grade 12, things began to change. I had never experienced any kind of uneasy feelings in class or any kind of alienation from other students. All this time when I was chatting it up with my friends and having a great time being involved and loved by my friends and teachers, there were kids in the class that felt the way I had felt in my Indigenous class. Because I was so focused on making sure myself and my friends were happy, I forgot about making other people feel comfortable. So as a teacher, my goal is to take down the boundaries of isolation to some of those kids. Encouraging cliques and different personalities to merge will not only help students to get involved, but to create an environment where everyone is involved and feels wanted and safe.
