A Life Changing Experience: A Personal Analysis

College never seemed like a possibility for me. However, God recently orchestrated events in my life that have sparked a desire for knowledge and academic accomplishment. I began working at Valley Christian Elementary School in the fall of 2014. To work in a Christian environment has been a blessing and a life changing experience. I work side by side with educated Christian men and women who work tirelessly and faithfully to support the mission “In everything God is preeminent”. This dedication and sacrificial work ethic has slowly reshaped my previous view of “work”. I have a new desire to explore the gifts God has given me and how I can fully equip myself to use them. In the fall of 2014 I had a conversation with the Superintendent at Valley …show more content…
I knew I had to start with God. I have learned time and time again to lay whatever I am going through at His feet, before I take action. So, I prayed. I wanted to be used for His glory and to follow His leading in my life, I just wanted to know what that was. At that time, college never even entered my mind. Almost a year passed and while the longing for purpose remained, I did not feel led to pursue change until the day my husband mentioned something to me about college. I can’t even recall exactly what we were talking about or how college fit into the conversation but, that night I couldn’t sleep and I woke up in the middle of the night with a feeling of purpose, an excitement for my professional future I had never felt before. I wanted to go to college. I wanted to choose my career, not spend the rest of my working life letting my career choose me. I spent the next several hours researching the options for a working mom wanting to attend college. God was answering my prayers. I knew instantly that I wanted to pursue psychology. But just as strongly, I knew I wanted to study the field from a biblical perspective. I believe with all of my heart, mind and soul that anything worth learning must be heard through a biblical …show more content…
I wanted to study and obtain my degree from a Christian college. My journey is just beginning. God is opening doors for me and has filled me with a sense of purpose and excitement for the possibilities that are to come. My family has been amazing, they have embraced the idea of my going to college as if it was the most normal thing I have ever done. My supervisor agreed to allow me to reduce my hours at work so I could pursue a college degree. My friends (most of whom were shocked to learn I did not already have a college degree) have been incredibly supportive and have been praying that I would have a real peace about the college I should attend. I am excited about this journey and where it and the Lord will take me. I feel an inner strength and determination that I know comes from the Holy Spirit. While researching colleges I was impressed with not only CCU’s academic offerings but with their strong biblical standing and presence in the Christian community. Thank you for the opportunity to apply to Colorado Christian University. I am excited for the possibilities ahead. Sherry Cabrera
