My love for connecting with people has been a major factor in my overall employment success, such as, two management roles before reaching my twenty’s and also a fulfilling career in the financial industry for nine years. Working in a customer service role for the last 14 years I have faced struggles with communication, as well as developed positive skills to work effectively with others. One of the most essential elements I have learned from working as a Financial Advisor is how to build trust with people. I firmly believe this is key to any successful relationship, rather an employment relationship or otherwise. “Trust is the willingness to be vulnerable to the actions of another. This means that followers believe that their leader will act with the followers’ welfare in mind. Trustworthiness is also one of the competencies in emotional intelligence.” In my “Financial Service Representative” role at a bank I was responsible for selling products the bank offers and to give customized advice to clients on their personal financial affairs. The most important part of my job was to gain the trust of the clients so they would feel comfortable with my intentions and be open to accept my recommendations because I had their best interest in mind. Working with my classmates on our group project required that I build this same trust with them. My group members needed to know that I would take the project seriously and that my intention to contribute fairly was a sincere
