Spring 275 Class Reflection

What is fellow? That was the first question I had in my freshman seminar. Although there wasn’t any fellow in my class, I still went to my instructor and friends to fulfill my curiosity. The answers ranged from a teaching assistance to a student who just wanted to be part of the class and yet they were only a piece of the answer. I didn’t know the real explanation till the day I applied to the fellow program. The word “fellow” actually means a lot to me today. It is not only one of the reasons people recognize me on campus, but also something I am very proud of. The role of fellow helped me learn lots of useful skill as well as shape the roads of my future journey. While the spring 275 class taught me the resources to be a better peer mentor, the fall 276 section helped us apply all these skills into real circumstances. All the experiences with my students and instructors are the nutrients for me to become more mature. I started to see the true meaning of leadership. Instead of just giving them the fish, we should be the people who are teaching them how to fish and giving them the appropriate tools. Although I was a teaching assistance in high school, I was too much of spoon-feeding the students with the answers rather than helping them to see the method of approach. I learned the skills like time managements and mentally as well as emotionally present because I had the opportunity to be in the program. If we can let them see the importance of these skills by themselves, they will be more likely to remember how to apply those in life. There is also a personal gain to be as a fellow. Whenever I see the happiness on their face, I can be more ensure of my future goal as a social worker. I want to be the individual that can bring the lights to all the hardship and be the one who others can lean on when they have
