My Experience As A Writer Essay

Decent Essays
My experience as a writer has changed throughout the years a lot. Someone always read to my sisters and myself when we asked. Even when they did not read to us, I can remember them reading around us, like when we were on vacation. My parents also got us in reading summer programs through the local library. My boyfriend and I have a daughter who is now ten months old, we try to read to her whenever we can. I enjoy reading Dr. Seuss books to her, since he has always been a favorite author of mine. I also have always had an interest in mystery and stories of different people’s lives. My parents did not go to college, but encouraged my sisters and me too. In grade school I would always read short stories, if I wanted to read something on my own

My family wasn’t around a lot when I was younger. My mom and dad both worked full time jobs, and the age gap between my sisters and I made it hard for us to enjoy spending time together. I’ve always felt that the big age gap between me and everyone in my family always affected our closeness. They all seemed so grown up, understanding things that I had yet to grasp, and doing things that I wasn't able to do. I longed to be able to be as grown up as the rest of my family.…

Literacy Narrative The earliest memory I have of reading is with my grandmother at her house. When I was a toddler, she would read to me every time I spent the night with her. My favorite book for her to read to me was Three Little Kittens by Paul Galdone. I 'm not too sure why this was my favorite book, but my grandmother says that I "insisted on having it read to me" every single time I was with her. She would also read the Bible to me, which was quite confusing and complicated for a child to comprehend, but she explained the stories to me in a child-like format.…

As you requested, I am writing to share my past writing experiences which include what kinds of writing I have done in school, the feedback that I seek on my work before I turn in assignments, the memories that I have of writing, voluntary writing I have done, and much more. Past Experiences with Writing Previous to this course I have taken several mandatory English, Writing, and Literature courses in which I have gained experience that now impact the way I write. In high school, I took my basic English & Writing courses, along with an Advanced Placement English IV course, in which the teacher persuaded me to join the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and compete in the Ready Writing Competition, in which I won first place in the…

When I first began learning how to read and write, I often found myself struggling. The concepts did not come easily to me, making it challenging to comprehend. Looking back on my experience, I can recall how lots of the other kids in my class encountered no difficulty at all. I worked at a slower pace compared to the majority of them, and required more frequent help from my teacher than others. At one point, I felt like the idea of being able to read and write independently seemed impossible.…

I am shamefully embarrassed of my first essay in this class. I was not aware of how terrible I was at writing. Over half of my sentences in my first essay did not make sense and if they did they were not relevant to the topic. If I look past the grammatical errors of my essay, the content is still fairly accurate. I admitted that I did not brainstorm before I wrote.…

My experience in writing has been very difficult. I seem to overthink and make it harder than it really is. Before you write something that is intended for a certain audience, you must first research the topic so that you will know what you are talking about and to keep their interest. Just standing in front of an audience is tough. They need to hear you loud and clear so speaking to them by looking into the audience and not down at a paper will carry your voice further.…

This semester my writing experience was very enlightening. I learned how to enhance my writing skills in many ways, like I now know how to express myself more concrete rather than just abstract so I can be able to share my thought or point of view more descriptively. I did struggle in finding what to write about this semester for the essays but it helped me find it with the many examples shown to get there.…

My History As A Writer Throughout my lifetime I have come to love and absolutely hate writing. The reasoning of the assignment or topic has a lot to do with my affinity and disgust. Although learning new things, like writing, was something that I loved doing in elementary school, that all changed when it was daily implemented. As an art form I recently come to love writing down my thoughts, ideas, opinions and stories.…

“A writer is someone for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people.” ― Thomas Mann. Writing is a subject that is different for everyone. In my opinion if I could write about a topic I choose and I am passionate about I know my papers would be interesting to read. On the other hand, I when I am given a topic to write about I think it is harder to make the paper interesting and enjoyable to read.…

I enjoyed reading and writing when I was a child. I would visit the school library at least once a day and read an average of 4 books per week. I liked the pictures of the fictional books. I liked putting puzzle pieces together. However, I would take a long time to match a word to a picture.…

At the beginning of this English course, I was so nervous and scared that I would fail. I do not think I have ever been a good writer. It has always terrified me because I have difficulty putting my thoughts down on paper. This course has proven to be highly inspiring to me as well as frightening. It has really taught me more about the understanding of the writing process and structure, in which helped me to not focus so much on the actual writing parts.…

To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…

Over the course of this semester I learned a handful of things about myself as a writer, that will help me develop as a more proficient writer over the course of my four years here. As a writer one of my strengths is backing up my argument with solid and concrete evidence that truly makes the reader believe what they are reading. Another area of my writing that I excel in is being able to process great ideas that follow the guidelines and the prompt. With that being said I have also seen that while the ideas may come with ease, I do have a challenging time with getting the ideas from my head onto paper in a manner that isn’t so disorganized that it makes the reader second guess themselves. Another shaky part of my writing comes much before the actual forming of sentences.…
