My Experience As A Servant Leader

Improved Essays
I have worked with leaders who made me feel that I was more important than they are. They helped me feel the workplace as my home, away from home. It was a good experience to work with them. I never felt the pressure of authority from them, as they shared their authority. Those leaders involved me in the decision-making processes. There was freedom to express the ideas. Those ideas got into their consideration, and many of them materialized. For instance, the charge nurse I had in my first job treated me as a servant leader would. She displayed her humility in dealing with others. She was ready to acknowledge that, her team members may have more ideas, skill and better experience than her (Dierendonck, 2011). As per her, I have better organizing capabilities and creative ideas. She offered me all her support. I got excited to know her confidence in me and felt committed to the task. I took the new responsibility, even though it was challenging. I spent the regular as well as some of my extra time to work on the project and completed it successfully. A servant leader promotes the followers and makes things happen through them. The humility of these leaders makes them put the other's needs first (Focht & Ponton, 2015). My charge nurse displayed her humility and servant leadership approach to her teammates by recommending my name for organizing the new ICU. I believe humility is essential to make others feel that we value and respect them. The act of humility can convey the message that we care for others with compassion which also can make people feel

Trudging through damp, snake infested grass, I reached down and started to collect hundreds of cans, wrappers, and other miscellaneous trash items. As I walked through this filthy lot, I realized how different this area of Rockford, Illinois was from my home town. With the help of over 200 workers, including myself, we were able to change the face of many people's lawns and hopefully inspire the house owners to change their habits forever. The club I am involved with at school that allowed me to participate in project 10-13, the annual cleaning of an area of Rockford, is Servant Leadership.…

Then moving into a management role, providing direction to my team to continue to give customers excellent support, guidance, and knowledge to the rest of campus.…
