The Importance Of My Happiest Experience In High School

Improved Essays
The long, unhappy buildup to my happiest experience began many years ago, when I first started school. Even on my very first day of kindergarten, it was already clear to me that going to school wasn’t going to be something that I enjoyed. I was very shy and withdrawn, and the other kids weren’t at all interested in being friends with me. They never seemed to like me as much as they all liked each other, despite my efforts to try and fit in. The kids in my class didn’t see my quiet nature as shyness, but rather as something strange, which made me someone to avoid. I was often picked on and felt excluded, and even though I always had a close friend through all thirteen years of school, I always felt as though I wasn’t fitting in like I should …show more content…
I was really nervous that day because I had never met anyone from my graduating class. Once I got there, though, my nerves settled and I was ready to finalize the end of my high school career. Due to my last name, I was the first one to walk, and to receive my diploma. Both of these events are very blurry memories to me, because they were over so quickly. Walking at graduation felt so surreal, it was over before I could even really process what it meant. The moment all high school students wait for, walking across the stage to grab their diploma, lasted only a brief moment. All of the congratulations and pride from my parents only added to the joy I was feeling. I think graduation is bittersweet for everyone, even for me, who was so happy for high school to be over. Graduation is a huge milestone in life, and it marks the end of your childhood. Once the reality set in that high school was over, I felt a bit panicked. I was going to be 18 very soon, and I would be moving away from home and going to …show more content…
Getting to meet so many new people and have so many new opportunities has been amazing. Since moving here I definitely feel like a happier person. It wasn’t nearly as exciting as what I built it up to be, but it was still very important to me. I could finally leave what gave me such stress and anxiety, and move on to what I had always wanted to do, which was go to college. All of the hard work I put in in high school finally paid off more than I thought it would. I’m now at UMF, the college I always wanted to go to. I’ve grown so much since that first year of high school, and I’ve accomplished so many things that I never thought I was capable of. I wish I could go back in time and tell my younger self how happy I am now. Fourteen year old me would have never guessed that I not only graduated high school with honors, but I’m also at my dream school with my first job. Friends and family bring a lot of happiness, but reaching goals and making yourself proud can bring a lot of joy also. Accomplishing things you never thought you could is one of the best things you can experience. You feel so much pride for yourself and all that you’ve done. I’m learning that I’m capable of whatever I put my mind to, and to not doubt myself or my

GROWING UP Growing up, I didn’t have many luxuries, if any. The best thing I had was being a 5 minute walk away from a convenience store. The house I grew up in was infested with cockroaches and was falling apart within the walls. The dining room was so small, some of us had to eat on the floor. We only had three bedrooms, so my three younger siblings had to sleep in the living room.…

It 's hard to believe that my first year as a Tennessee Vol is nearly complete. Looking back at the memories I 've made and the things that I 've experienced, it 's hard to put those things into words. I look back to where I was a year ago, and it 's amazing how far I 've come. A year ago I had no idea where I was going to college, I began to question what I wanted to do with my life, and I forgot to enjoy life. My high school basketball career had just come to an end, I had the opportunity to watch our girls compete for a State Championship, I was a month and a half from graduating high school, and I was on my way to Washington, D.C. and New York City for the first time in my life, and I was selected to go to National FCCLA in DC for my…

At 38 degrees latitude north and 92 longitude west, lies the rural farming town of California, Missouri. This town is rich in cornfields, small businesses, and many churches of all denominations. From the quiet fields, to the busy town square this city is home to 4,341 people. What I believe makes California stand out from the other towns is that it has the “oldest continuously operating fair west of the Mississippi” (Kunze). But the thing that impacts me most about this town is the California High School, it’s staff, and the students.…

Through those years I can see myself being molded into the young man I am today, and I will say I wouldn’t go back and change any of it. Through two moments in my high school career, I found who I was and made me a better man so that I can have a sustainable future. One experience was actually during one of my lowest moments in high school; the time I cheated on a Chemistry test. I've always been stellar at chemistry, but my peers in my class weren’t as much.…

In Ian Frazier’s essay “In Praise of Margins,” he sees marginal places and activates valuable. The very word marginal to Ian Frazier has a simple meaning of a “negative tinge” (Frazier) where it is defined as actions and decisions that are non-goal oriented, or without purpose. In Frazier’s Own life, a marginal activity and a place for him and his friends were out in the woods as it was there “part-time address, destination, purpose, and excuse” (Frazier). However, growing up Frazier and his friends had the woods as their marginal activity which was often seen by society as unbeneficial. But, from an academic perspective, I agree with Frazier that marginal activates are important.…
