It was supposed to be a very fun day. SUPPOSED to be. The morning of orientation I went to school like normal. I woke up and got ready for school and got to school and waited in the gym to be dismissed to go to class. In which case I never had to go to class because of orientation that day. We all met in the gym where we received a large and very straight forward speech by Mr. Alan Fitterer, he was a pretty tall, middle aged man with longer gray hair and glasses. He told us a little bit about the highschool and some of the classes and extracurricular activities that the High School offered. The school was so beautiful when I first walked in. It was so cool to see how big it was and how cool all of the features were. It was so spread out and very well designed. The school was so spacious and the amount of classrooms intrigued me. We were split up into groups for a tour. I happened to know one of the seniors that was giving the tour and he asked me to be in his group, so of course I agreed. His name was Jordan Bartholomew and I knew him and his brother Matthew. So while my friends and I were getting toured Jordan told us told us something very important. He said, “Make sure you guys don’t do anything stupid and you will be just fine here.” So along the way we went into Ms. Lillas Classroom, it was big and had a few different levels with tables and desktop computers on them. We saw another one of my buddies

My high school experience at High Point High School began as frustrating then it became positive. Being academically independent, since elementary school, I did not feel that high school was going to be a major difference, but I did not take into consideration of a new ambiance with new challenges. One thing that remained the same was the fact that I was always reserved and I stayed to myself. I thought that in high school I was going to be able to leave my shell and be more outgoing. I was wrong, I am still shy and still quiet, but high school did teach me valuable concepts that I will carry on through college.…

Maquoketa, upon my initial impression when I moved here in 2012, was a small quiet town and although that is something that I now I know it is also so much more. I was in middle-school when I first came but it was in high school that I truly grew to appreciate the wonderful community. Waking up before the sun on the first day of high school, I pictured myself walking into heaven. No more jail-like school uniforms that I’ve been stuck with since kindergarten, overly handsome varsity athletes everywhere, popular cliques that all the dorks -like myself-looked up to, and freedom. Freedom from being treated like a baby. I was practically grown. At least that is what I thought; it was only the beginning.…
