Personal Narrative: My Exceptional Journey In My Nursing Vocation

My Exceptional Journey in my Nursing Vocation “Lord, are you really sure that you called me to serve as a nurse?” These were the words that I asked God when my first attempt to answer God’s call in nursing had failed. The Colorado Christian University (CCU) is my second nursing school and yet I considered it as the school that has been sent by God to me. The CCU supports my personal philosophy and Christian perspective of nursing as a practice or profession and as a vocation. The nursing profession encompasses the metaparadigm of person, health, nursing and environment. Each concept is interrelated to one another. For instance, nursing is a health since its practice focuses on providing health care at its optimum level. It is nursing and environment because the nature of nursing practice does not only focus on the client functioning capabilities, but understanding the nature of the environment within which a client functions. It is important to remember that the social structures that make up the environment within which nurse practice is essential in understanding the concept of the nursing profession (Doornbos, Groenhout & Hotz, 2005). I believe that science is a gift from God because the wisdom that the scientists utilized for any scientific breakthroughs or studies is a blessing from God “For the Lord gives wisdom and from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding” (Proverbs 2:6, NIV). My beliefs about the nursing practice and profession as a steward of sacred life supports my values in my nursing vocation as God’s ministry in order to touch the heart and soul of His beloved human
