Wednesday, September 16th, 2015 I did my observation of Paul Dunbar Middle School. Some of the first things I noticed when I entered the school was how enormous the school’s population is and how the school was mostly Hispanic and African American students. I arrived at the front desk and was asked by the assistant principal what was my preference of classroom. She then proceeded to take me the section of the school where the ESE classes are held. ESE stands for exceptional student education classes.…

Jonah does not have positive relationships with his teachers and this causes tension in the classroom. He doesn’t like Mrs. Wheatly, his English teacher and they constantly argue during class. Jonah and Doug Peterson the student welfare officer also don’t have a great relationship. Jonah doesn’t respect or Doug but sometimes listens…
These situations ought to be handled in the most appropriate and confidential matter. Using the principle of subsidiarity and dealing with challenges at the lowest level of proficient authority is essential. This incident involves a student whose huge future can be threatened. The reputation of the school, the educators, and the administrative staff can be tarnished also. Not to mention, the case is occurring while there is political dissatisfaction, a broadening racial divide, and economic deterioration.…
Since the first grade. His current teacher, Ms. Parker has expressed concerns of Tommy’s behavior. Tommy has been in a Special Education Day Class since he was in first grade and was in the same class all the way till third grade. He has been moved to a new class for fourth grade. According to his teacher, Ms. Parker, Tommy’s disruptive behaviors seem to be escalating day by day.…
Watching Mr. Clapp and his classroom of Middle School 6th graders for Language Arts has been an informative adventure for me. While observing his lessons I noticed that he was a laid back teacher who lets the children gain their own self-discipline. He is not a strict teacher at all. In fact, Mr. Clapp has made his classroom an interesting and fun way to learn.…
The first teacher of Melinda’s that we are introduced to is Mr. Neck. He is described to look like a retired jock. I imagine him with a height above 6 feet, someone who towers over anyone within 5 feet of him. He has a buzz cut so you could say that he looks like someone that had come out of the military. From the way he is described, I would think that he would be a very loud individual.…
Reflection for Week Eleven During week eleven I had the opportunity to sit in on parent teacher conferences on Tuesday and Thursday. Although the days were very long since we were at school until 6:30pm each night, I gain knew insight from the teacher’s perspective. I learned that it is best to sit beside the parents instead of sitting in the “teacher’s chair” so that parents do not feel intimidated as you share information about their students. You want to make the parents feel comfortable as they listening to the teacher give an overview of their students’ progress, strengths, weaknesses, and goals. You also want the parents to feel comfortable sharing information that could help their student in the classroom during the meeting regardless…
PART A: I agree with Carol Tomlinson’s statement about curriculum being the ultimate identifier of potential. Potential is having or showing capacity to become or develop into something in the future. School curriculum is defined as the course of study observed by the school. I do believe that the curriculum has to reflect the student’s needs to be the ultimate identifier of potential. We know that all students learn differently.…
1. Based on your readings thus far, describe the characteristics and specific type of learning disability Charlie presented. Although Charlie is a very bright boy, who loves his father, friends, nature, and outdoor activities like skateboarding, he makes it very clear that school is one of the least enjoyable aspects of his life. Charlie explains that he has difficulty reading and that this became a serious problem when he started first grade.…

In "Call Me" by Chris Kunitz, the line "you make fun of the way I act" reminds me of my middle school experience. I was in isolated, with no companions. Consistently, I'd detach myself from everyone, and sat on a bench all by myself. I wore odd clothes and spoke differently, in contrast to my peers. I felt like a ghost, floating off into a different world; every other person was grinning and upbeat as I watched like an inept fool.…
Before I start to tell you this story, I would like to ask something of you. I don’t know if this paper is worthy of being put up on the board, but I would like to ask for it to not be put up on the board. The person in this story does not know- and I would like to keep it that way. I will be changing the names and leaving out information…
He did this about two more times, but later he would recognize what he did and then apologize and show them that he really cared. I also believe he was an astounding teacher for the fact that he dedicated his free time to teach (Menéndez, 1998). He was getting payed less than half the money he was getting payed in his old job and he invested twice the time because he loved it (Menéndez, 1998). He invested so much time teaching that he risked his health just to make sure his students learned (Menéndez, 1998). His main goal was to get those students to pass the AP test and encourage them to get a better future by going to college.…
In this case study, Rich Thorpe is an extremely passionate first-year teacher at West Alton High School. Rich was very grateful to have received this job, and has put a lot of effort into his teaching, despite the pressures of a first year teacher. For the first three quarters of the year, he has had good classroom management skills, and his students respect him as a teacher. He clearly spends time thinking about his students because when he noticed a few of them were struggling toward the end of the year he became concerned and wanted to help them out, especially since their behaviors effected the entire class.…
