STEREOTYPING
I became a mother at a very young age. I heard people talking me and others in my situation. Can NOT tell you how many times I would never do anything with my life, but I was an activities director assistant, scrub tech for an ophthalmologist, in college, and a mother of straight A students. The negative Nancies can kick rocks! I have also been stereotyped for the number of tattoos I have. Currently, I have fifteen and counting. I do not place them where they can be easily seen. We had decided to go eat at a restaurant that is accessible from the lake. We went in, found a table, and ordered. A couple was seated next to us. They took notice of my tattoos. The lady said, “Look at her. She has tattoos everywhere. I bet she has pitbulls and does drugs” loud enough for our table and the surrounding tables to hear her. It doesn’t happen often, but I said something to her. I went over, said my peace, and walked away. When she realized my tattoos stood for important people and events in my life and I adopted my pitbulls because they were left for dead, she walked out crying and apologizing. After that I realized it was ignorance on her part, and stupidity on mine for saying anything to her. I should have left it
