My Escape From North Korea Analysis

H: From escaping death, overcoming a life-threatening disease, and battling insanity to simply surviving the ‘horrendous idea of high school’, survival situations include a wide range of difficulty. To some, the mere act of giving a speech may compare to surviving World War II. B: For Sakura in the film “Alice”, which was written by Higuchi Tachibana, surviving means overcoming the judgements of her prodigy classmates and growing into her talents. In more real-life situations, Aron Ralston in “Trapped” sacrifices his own arm to survive when he is trapped alone in the canyons; Hyeonseo Lee’s life at one point, as she tells in “My Escape from North Korea” was spent trying to escape North Korea with her family. T: All three individuals show characteristics that aided them in survival: Sakura shows amazing optimism, Ralston demonstrates perseverance, and Lee exemplifies intelligence. C: Though Sakura’s ‘talent’, or ‘power’, may seem trivial and unnoticeable in her school, and though her classmates harass her, she shows unlimited optimism that helped her survive her first year at Alice Academy.
