In two essays following my entrance essay, thesis statements became my biggest issue. I received a ninety on my entrance essay, so naturally I assumed that any future essay would only get better. This was not the case for me at all because instead of improvement, I regressed. The only way to correct my problem was to find the issue and figure out a resolution. Over the course of the semester, I have become aware that I still need to learn to write complete, specific, and fully developed thesis statements.

This realization went unnoticed until my third essay rough draft had been sent back to me, making it clear that I still had not executed the skill of successfully creating a complete, specific, and fully developed thesis statement. This positional essay may have been the most difficult for me to complete. I say this simply because my instructor repeated her comment from the week before and also said my thesis statement was not fully developed. Her exact comment being, “thesis needs to be more specific and further developed.” (“Persuasive Essay” 1.) When seeking my teacher’s feedback, she told me my thesis statement needed more structure and was not well thought out. She further explained the structure and organization of a thesis statement creates the setting of an essay as a whole. Receiving these critiques from both my instructors devastated me. All the time I thought I was progressing, I was regressing and it reflected in my grades. The completion of three rough drafts and three final drafts, along with the help and constructive criticism of my instructors, are what helped me find my weakness in writing essays. The solution to my weakness is to learn to create complete, specific, and fully developed thesis statements. One can only achieve this through the continual practice of writing essays and executing each skill one at a time. My room for improvement is infinite. I will not stop trying to better myself until I have reached my full potential of writing a near perfect essay with a correctly formulated thesis
