When I the Psycholinguistics course, one of the things I enjoyed the most about it was that my professor utilized so many different types of assignments and activities to help us with the material. The majority of the classes I have taken here at Temple have relied on a straightforward PowerPoint lecture format. In this course, while PowerPoints were used, there were also readings from seminal journal articles

The first time I read through the entire thing without stopping or making notes. The second time around I would highlight information I thought was important. The third time I read I would look specifically for where in the article the answers to the required reading questions could be found. This helped me because the articles were very dense and long and it was too difficult to understand them in a single reading. For exams, the thing that helped me the most in my preparation was attending the review sessions that were held by the class preceptor. As a student who had already taken the course, he had tremendous insight into what we needed to focus on the most and was often able to explain concepts in a more easily understood …show more content…
In lectures, my mentor typically presents concepts or definitions of terms in one consistent manner. For the tests, however, it is expected that the students can use these definitions to answer questions that are phrased conversely. So far, in my exam review sessions and office hours I have tried to explain that there will be questions about concepts that will not be asked differently from how they are shown in the PowerPoints and review materials. Like most children who grew up in a bilingual environment, I had trouble discerning Japanese and English when I was growing up in California, since I spent most of the time with my mother’s family. Because of that, any English I absorbed through PBS shows was mashed together with Japanese to form Japanglish. Then I briefly attended preschool in Naha, which made it even worse. I barely made it to elementary school. My kindergarten teacher recommended me to stay another year, but my parents refused to allow it.…

When I first came to college, I was scared to take a college level English class. In high school, I slacked off all of my English classes due to the fact that all teachers taught pointless lessons. In addition, students would get A’s or B’s for the words that are on paper rather than the critical analyzes. Lang 120 is the first English class to step away from my passive writing and challenge myself more on critical analyzes and the stages of writing. In my Lang 120 class with Professor Pisano, I learned how to connect information together, how to actively gather sources, and effectively communicate with an audience.…
