The accent is almost British mixed with our tone, so in a weird way during the time the spoken English in Nepal has entirely evolved. I would speak fluently and confidently there and everyone would understand the message I was trying to convey. I usually use to add “na” or other tone of Nepali at the end of the sentence to make it more reveling to the audience as most of them would be Nepali. No matter how good I was at speaking English even if it was a Nepali version of it, I could not express my feeling as well as I would in Nepali. As I was a naïve child back then, I thought,” I must have made a mistake, I spelled color differently in the letter I was given by my teacher as home work on ‘Letter to your friend abroad’”. Then the next day I got my exercise book back where I had written the sample letter. There I saw the word color which I spelled as “colour” was not marked by my teacher. I got anxious and after the class was over I went to my teacher and asked him that if the spelling of the world color was either “color” or “colour” and I told him about the spelling in the subtitle of the movie. He smiled a told me,” Son, we have adopted the British writing so the spelling of color is c.o.l.o.u.r and “c.o.l.o.r” is used as spelling for color in the USA”. He had to put it in a long sentence as I could not understand it being a child, but after his explanation I perfectly understood the difference in English. After this incident I watched more American movies and again noticed the difference in accent particularly in some world like ask, fast, stop, task, laugh, bath, example, command, grass, last and many more. Some time I would try these accent on my friends in Nepal and they would laugh and react in such a manner that I was out of my mind.
