My Educational Goal

My educational goal long term is to complete my Master’s degree in Health Information Management. Defining goals is the single matter that keeps me focused or shall I say my eye on the trophy. Beginning my academic journey of short-term goals by earning a Career Diploma from Penn Foster Career School in Medical Coding and Billing; then moving on to pursue and obtaining my Associate of Science Degree in Health Information Technology with Kaplan University. At that stage, I immediately re-enrolled in the Bachelor of Science Degree program in Healthcare Administration. Come December 2016’ I will sit for the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) exam to become certified, trudging ahead with my plans. Consequently, I decided to pursue a career change from the retail industry to healthcare management after I experienced kidney failure in September 2009’ and …show more content…
With my determination to complete my goals, this course is the definitive tool to get me there faster. It was evident that last term the material was not a unique challenge for me since a significant portion of the information covered was a reiteration from when I studied with Penn Foster and Kaplan during the Associate program. Even though it allowed me to acquire the GPA I expect of myself, I’d rather cover new material, keeping the learning portion thought-provoking. Not to mention it will bring me closer to the Master’s degree and save me money. Moreover, once I pass the certification exam, I will search for employment and land a position-coding, preferably remote. Keeping in mind that there will be various opportunities at my disposal, I will stay on top of all the coding guidelines and the newly added codes that seem to be ever changing. I’m looking at being an Auditor or Manager of the Health Information Management department.
