Personal Narrative: My Elementary And Secondary School

Improved Essays
My educational experience was fun, entertaining, and adventurous. My elementary and secondary school that I went to were in a small town. One on one help was always easy to get since my class contained about 25 children in the classroom and there was always an aide in the room. My elementary and secondary school did well in assisting anyone with homework or anything overall. Both the teachers and staff knew and cared about each one of the students that were enrolled in school. According to John Taylor Gatto, “They said the work was stupid, that it made no sense, that they already knew it.” This sounded similar to when I was in elementary and secondary school and even today in college. Our coach who has made us be so successful in the following years, finally became only a head coach. As we were approaching volleyball season again, we knew on the first day of practice that we wanted to make it to state our final year of high school. Our team knew what we had to prove on the court to exceed our coach’s and our community’s expectations. We made it to the state tournament in Huron, SD and received 5th place, which is consolation champions! The following upcoming sport was basketball, we had some of the same girls on the team as we did for volleyball. We knew we had what it took to make it to state again, but we also had to teach the other players how much effort and hard work it took to make it to the State ‘B’ Tournament. We practiced harder than we played hard in games and did well in majority of our games. We won our district game and had a very close game in regions, but we come out with the win! We drove to Huron, SD again and had expectations of not getting last place. We knew the competition was going to be tough, but our team knew we had the motivation to do well in this tournament. We competed and played three games total. We won our final game that we played, putting our team in 7th place for the tournament. However, this was the best game that I had ever played in my entire high school basketball career, which was exciting and devastating all at once. My life lessoned learned from playing sports was knowing that the effort I put into something is what I am going to get out of

Therefore, this was a team of small freshmen and sophomores playing against mostly juniors and seniors at the varsity level in one of the most talented high school conferences in the state. We finished the season 1-15, most of which were pretty tough losses but we worked hard and left it all on the field every game and that in the end is all that matters. The most prevalent memory was after the last game all the players were pretty upset about how it went but our coach ended our last huddle with, “We came into this season knowing it would be challenging and we worked hard from start to finish and I think we ended this season better than we started, which means that next year is gonna be a pretty good…

From my personal experience, when I was in elementary school I remember my teacher would let us sit on yoga ball it always helped me concentrate and it helped me when I was really active because I could not move around, it will make me fall if I move around. I like the idea of standing desks because I prefer standing a lot but when I need to I could sit down on the tool, but I could still move my legs around and be somewhat active. So if one day you're feeling antsy you can just stand. Also I think if your tired it could help you stay awake. Mark Benden also states that sitting desk can cause kids to be obese, he also says that too much sitting is bad for your health.…

As the current coaching staff knew, we were struggling without the guidance of our previous coach: every meet was like going into enemy territory, with little hometown crowd support. When our new Coach reminded us that we were unified and could stand with one another knowing that we’d triumph, we were rejuvenated. Commencing our execution of every meet in intention, we were conscious that our effort would amount to…

In addition, I met some of relatives, who live in North Carolina, for the first time that I can remember. During the tournament, we competed well despite losing all three of our games. We also won one game by forfeit. We even had a double-digit lead at one point, and stayed within five points almost the whole game against another opponent, but we let both games slip away from us. Despite us not actually…

With an 8-0 record and a combined point total of 217-14, everyone in our district had high expectations. As the seasons changed and the leaves broke apart and disappeared from sight, so did our highly coveted class of 2018. Half of my teammates either open enroll to other schools or just simply quit with no rhyme or reason to why. What would follow within the next three seasons was nothing less of an absolute beatdown from our opponents. I won't lie, it was heart-wrenching to witness all the work us remaining boys put in and to still have no trophy or banner to represent our efforts.…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…
