My Career Goals: The Story Of My Educational Career

The story of my educational career is a lot like a roller coaster. In the beginning, I had enter the school for my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. I did really well in the program and was very excited to make an impact on the children I would be teaching. Unfortunately, I had to withdraw from the program with only 1 semester left of student teaching due to my divorce. I had been out of school for 5 years and just last year decided to finish what I had started. When I contacted the school, I was informed that the curriculum had changed and that I was going to have to repeat the two years of school I had completed. I had planned to finish my Bachelor’s and then get my Master’s in Elementary Education. Since starting this program, my career goals have changed. I have decided that I would like to follow an educational path that will lead me to instructional leadership with in the elementary school systems. I am still learning what Master’s program that would be best for me to enter based on my goals for my career.
I will finish with a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies with my two concentrations in Education and Psychology. Being in the education field, all of the classes that I have taken for Interdisciplinary Studies apply. Education should be looked at with an open mind for improvement and learning from all other disciplines can help give an educator more of a full circle view of our education curriculums and techniques. Using the knowledge of this program will help me in my career by first helping me see the problem as a whole rather than tunnel vision. Looking upon education from many different facets can help me evolve the system into solid plan of action. Secondly, learning about interdisciplinary studies has opened my mind up to the possibilities of bringing creativity back to the teachers in the classrooms. Many teachers feel stagnant because of the restraints that the course of study puts upon them, leading to unhappy teachers, which will trickle down to unhappy students. Teachers are always at their best when they have passion behind their lessons. Lastly, interdisciplinary studies has inspired me to push further to the level that I could either make a huge difference in education or at least pave the way for someone behind me. I want so much to change things for the better, to encourage all children from all walks of life to believe they can achieve their
