My Educational Career Analysis

Throughout my educational career I have not experienced too many failures or setbacks. That is not to say that subjects have always come naturally to me, but with hard work, time, and energy, I have been able to meet my academic goals in my classes. The greatest academic challenge came to me in my two college physics courses. While my professor was one of the most intelligent professors I have encountered and clearly knew very advanced physics, he seemed to struggle with communicating basic physics concepts to the class. The professor lectured to us, rarely provided visuals or real world examples, and was not open to students having questions or needing extra help. While the class was not easy for me, I was able to get a good grade because I was able to rely on the physics …show more content…
However, I noticed many of my classmates, who were also biology majors, who didn’t have any prior knowledge, struggled in the class. The experience seemed to turn them off of physics. Several students dropped the class, stopped showing up, or didn’t enroll in the second part of the course, even though both parts were required for biology majors.
It was this experience that made me realize a student’s educational experience is very dependent on the abilities and personality of the instructor. As a teacher, I want to ensure that my students have every opportunity to learn and are not turned away from biology by my teaching. I believe that it is my job to teach in a way that will target all of my students’ ways of learning by including oral, visual, and hands-on presentations to teach the material. It is also important for me to teach to my students who may come from impoverished background or struggle with

During POC #1, I learned through the Focus 2 Career Assessment that I am almost ready to become a nurse. In order for me to become a nurse, I need to become a more social person, either that or fake it! By taking the Focus 2 Carer Assessment, I easily learned a valuable lesson about becoming a nurse, and how I should take my personality into consideration while becoming a nurse. Because I am determined to become a nurse, I am willing to become a more social person; but if I were not willing to become more social, Focus 2 claimed that I would excel quite well in many different types of jobs.…

Throughout my educational career I have had several great teachers. To choose my best teacher is difficult for me since each teacher was for a different course and they had a unique personality and style of teaching. Overall, I would have to choose Mr. Poska as my best teacher (not necessarily my favorite teacher). I took AP Calculus I & II with him during my junior year of high school, then I took Calculus III with him in my senior fall semester. I also happened to have him as my junior and senior advisor during Connect.…

My freshman year at the University of Georgia was one that was liberating in an unexpected way; I came into college as an enthusiastic Biology major, excited to start off my pre-med career. I heard about the public health field when taking a sociology course; in the class, we learned about the disparities of health and different factors contributing to the gap between the rich and the poor, and how one’s income affects their health. I took a health and wellness class, and I realized that I was deeply interested in learning more about how I could contribute to this field. My previous experience volunteering in a hospital and shadowing in a private practice gave me two different perspectives on the field of health.…

This class helped me a lot. I learned so much in just a few weeks. Yes, the class was difficult, but I would not change it. This class was made to be challenging, and changing it would make it easier. I cannot really pinpoint one part of the class that helped me because from the beginning of this class to the end I was learning something…

Megann Schmidt Final Paper At the beginning of the semester, I was greatly looking forward to this class because I found the topics presented very interesting, and now, at the end of the semester, I can say this class has even exceeded my expectations. The readings and discussion have taught me a number of things and have changed some of my perceptions of the biological world. As I look back, a few things I learned that stand out are critical reading skills, legitimateness of evolution, the impact of evolution, and the flaws of science education.…

When a student enters their freshman year of high school, he or she is about to enter a completely new experience in their life. This experience is an important one, because it is one that for the next four years, will determine what kind of a person the student is and will ultimately give insight into what future the student may have after high school. Because of this, these students receive much advice about every aspect of high school, such as what classes to take, what things to get involved in, and how to manage time between school, work, and sports if that is what the student is planning on doing in high school. Out of all of these different topics, the one piece of advice that I would give freshmen that are starting their high school career is about activities to be involved in. To be exact, my advice is to get involved in as much as you can.…

Essay 1: Developing a Topic of Interest As a sophomore in college, I have interacted with various instructors over the years and have determined that there are typically two types of instructors. The instructor who is willing to put in the extra effort to assure a student learns the material and succeeds in their class, and the instructor whose goal is to present the information as required and expect the student to regurgitate the information back on exams and/or essays. The instructor of a course can ultimately determine the amount of engagement a student has, the overall quality of learning, and how efficiently students are able to perform overall in the class.…

Extending students knowledge about biology with the help of frequent hands on activities and using the Learning cycle [5E model] to develop interest in the subject In a biology class a student came up to me and asked, 'Miss, why are we learning biology? I don’t find it interesting.' I was not sure if I should answer him or let him figure out his own answer for why he should study biology and how it can be made more interesting. In all my classes I have observed that students learn biology just for the grades they receive. Students don’t study it because it interests them.…

In the beginning of the semester in the physics course, we were asked to write an essay on what it means to be a learner in physics. I wrote about the importance of being a good listener. I then discussed the importance of being prepared for class and coming in with a willingness to learn, as well as starting class with an open mind to learning outside one’s comfort zone and taking risks. Amongst a few other things, I mentioned that becoming a successful learner requires effort and dedication. These ideas I started off with were put to the test throughout the semester in the physics course.…

I'm pretty sure i speak for all of us when i say we learned a lot more than we do in other classes. Like i said earlier though we learned more than just science. We learned the values like getting work done on time, teamwork is key, and to be what Mr.Pj calls the students profile or what a student should be. When I mean getting work done on time, I mean Mr.Pj would always push you to finish your work not for his sake to grade it, but for you to understand what…
