My Education Beyond High School

Improved Essays
For as long as I can remember, I have had a heart for serving my community and to continue my education beyond high school. As I grew up with a family that earned little income, my mother taught me the essence of discipline and the importance of continuing my education beyond high school. As a high school graduate and an adult, I have allowed the trials of my life, along with the classes I have completed, to become an opportunity to enhance the skills needed for my future education. I currently attend National Park College, where I plan to continue my education towards an Associate of Arts degree. In the fall, I will attend full-time classes where they will help provide me the necessary training and studies to advance towards my future education.

I was always fond of the color orange. It is the fur color of the lovable, bouncy Tigger that enjoyed the company of his friends. Today’s high school curriculums are becoming more and more aimed at college readiness and preparing students for the next step of their lives. With the ACT and other college readiness assessments that we have had to complete, it has been subliminally and deeply ingrained in our minds since the first days of our freshman year that we must attend some sort of higher education after we walk out those lobby doors for the last time. Are we moving towards a society where a college degree is as necessary as a high school diploma is today? In Clive Crook’s article, “A Matter of Degrees” in The Atlantic Monthly, the topic of educational inflation is discussed from the standpoint of inflation being a chronic suffering to many occupations (Crook 28).…

(1). Although I may not have the strongest GPA among my peers, I consider myself to be an active member in my community. Compared to my affluent friends in college, I was born and raised in a low-income community on the East Side of San Jose. Additionally, my family 's social-economical background placed us at a disadvantage due to the fact in which my parents were not able to afford to pay for certain academic luxuries that my peers have had (private tutors, extracurricular academic activities, summer science camps, etc). However, I was fortunate to have been placed in charter schools for the most part of my K-12 education.…

It was 2015, I was assisting my uncle, a veterinarian, in an orthopedic surgery on a dog. The air smelt heavily of alcohol, used for sterilization, my arms were starting to ache as I held the dog’s leg steady for amputation. The rush of adrenaline I felt kept my hands motionless, as I watched my uncle line up the bone cutters. The pressure built between my fingers till I felt the final snap of the bone. It was in this moment, and many moments proceeding, that I made my decision to pursue a career in the veterinarian field.…

I grew up in what is considered a low income family, but I’ve always wanted to go to college. Before I even understood the concept of degrees, I would tell my parents “I want to go to college for seven years!” because I thought we could just choose how long we could go to college for. As I grew up, my goals became realistic. Instead of being president, however, I now want to do something that involves helping others and educating.…

Being involved with my community is very imperative because it allows me to give back to the city that has raised me for the past eighteen years and help that same city prosper for future generations. Helping others is/has always been/will always be one of the most enjoyable things I could do if awarded with a degree. If granted with a degree, no matter what the certificate may be for or of, there will always be a way to help and impact another person’s life. There is no level of degree that will put me above others in the sense of assistance or involvement with the community, but having a degree does allow me to expand the range of help I can lend and insight I can teach for those who may be lost and confused. Personally, lending a helping hand is he most delightful and caring things someone can do for someone else because it does not just benefit them, but can…

Getting a higher education after high school is becoming more common as years go by because it is a necessity in the work force. This fact makes getting high paying jobs more difficult, getting accepted into great schools more difficult, and getting scholarships for these schools more difficult proving that it takes a significant amount of diversity and skill to stand out from the rest. I feel that I stand out in the fact that I have been certain and passionate about the career in which I plan on pursuing, and I have found that truly knowing yourself is the key to success.…

It was time for me to do things on my own, and though I knew it would be difficult, I also knew it would help me in the long run.…
