This thinking is often attributed to people who work in law enforcement, or have been victims of crime themselves. While researching human rights, I did not find any articles that directly correlate to this population, however the articles discuss protecting a vulnerable population and yet this group is not listed. There are articles that discuss some of the ways that terrorists such as Article 5 which says; no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment (Reichert, 2006). This article is relevant but can be interpreted in several different ways causing confusion and biasness. Other articles address a person’s rights before being convicted such as Article 6 which states that; everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law (Reichert, 2006). People who live in areas that cannot offer many services are at a clear disadvantage, this is exemplified in Konrad’s text when she talks about it is more useful to children and families when child-centered professionals are open to diverse educational and therapeutic approaches that have had good results (Konrad, 2013). People that live in traditionally lower socio-economic area often are limited to the services and may even get subpar treatment due to inaccessibility due to financial restrictions.
My guiding principles for my social work practice are that I will try to be a voice for the people that I work that have no voice. I will constantly allow myself to be learning, from other professionals but from clients as well.
