In the film Here Comes the Boom, Scott Voss, is a high school biology teacher who has completely lost his passion for education. When confronted about his lack of enthusiasm, Voss says, “But I was teacher of the year.” But it turns out, it had been ten years since that award. It was not until he set out to help his colleague and friend, Marty, save the school music department that he regained it. In order to save the program, Voss begins training as a mixed martial arts fighter, despite the ridicule he receives for attempting such a thing at his age.
