Imagine being 4 years old, watching your favorite character perform on your favorite show. Confident that you were knowledgeable of everything he was going to do next. Then you get a surprise, Big Bird is going to China. Your level of excitement is uncontainable. You have only seen him on Sesame Street, with Oscar the Grouch, Grover, Burt and Ernie. He was leaving his nest; he was not just traveling to another place, but to an entirely different country. I had to question, “How was he going to get back to Sesame Street?”
I patiently wait in front of the television for Big Bird to appear in China. It was the most fulfilling day of my entire 48 months of living. To see how he interacted with the children from another country really peaked my interest. That is when it struck me; I want to be a teacher. Not just any teacher, I wanted to go to China with Big Bird and help teach the children English. I had my mind set. My goals were in place, all I needed was to grow up and find Big Bird. I look back on how Big Bird influenced my life decision even at the tender age of four.

We already know who we will marry, how many kids we desire to have, and what career we will be working in. Nevertheless, life has a way of distracting us from our goals. I became pregnant at the age of 15, and decided to dedicate my life to caring for my child first. By the age of 19, I had two boys, and I was a devoted wife. Soon after, I was the proud mother to four beautiful children. Taking care of my family had now become my goal in life. I enjoyed being a homemaker; most women do not have the ability to tend to so many demands at once.
