Reflective Essay On College Education

It was August 2007 a sunny day on the Buffalo State University campus and the last day of college orientation. I was called into the financial aid office and asked to provide proof of citizenship. I had no idea what the lady behind the counter was referring to. I called my mom and she provided me with my Alien ID number. I walked out the financial aid office that day demoralized. My dream of acquiring a college education was taken away from me in less than thirty minutes. I realized on that day I was an immigrant and due to my immigration status I would not be able to receive financial aid to pay for college. When I arrived back home I felt disoriented, college was all I had planned for after high school. The years that followed taught me a great lesson that I will forever carry with me. The lesson learned is that life is a journey and everything in life happens for a reason.

That summer of 2007 I spent my days looking for work and ways to educate myself. I searched for adds

I had learned all there was to learn as a technician in Sugarhill. I believed to be a valuable employee in the pharmacy. However, I was limited in the services I provided. There was much more to learn about pharmacy. I wanted more and to do more. I wanted to be able to help individuals with drug interaction questions and be knowledgeable about the drugs prescribed. I set a goal for that year which was to find the means to go to school and pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree. My immigration status was amended in August 2012 and my first semester began in January 2013. Despite the fact that some of my family along with my fellow colleagues believed that I was making a huge mistake. With the support of my husband and those who believed in me I tried my hardest in all my courses. My second semester I was a recipient of the Carlos Beltran Scholarship in Hostos Community College which further motivated me to continue on my educational

As a member of Health Occupations Students of America, I competed in dental terminology in the interest of diversifying my knowledge of the medical field and made it to state-level competition. I also joined a rigorous Pharmacy Technician Certification class and interned at CVS, an experience that taught me to work fast and in an organized fashion, be social with colleagues and customers, and teamwork skills such as assisting a customer or answering phone calls for co-workers. These responsibilities taught me to make use of time and be more social. This environment was amazing to me because I had always wanted to understand how a pharmacy is managed. In the end, I passed the state exam to become a certified Pharmacy…

"I entered the classrooms with the conviction that it was crucial for me and every other student to be an active participant, not a passive consumer" (Hooks 254). Most students go to school because they have to learn, but most of the time they are not learning, instead they are being taught or spoon fed information to remember. Students are constantly having information thrown at their face so they can take that big test and as soon as that test is over with the information gets thrown out of the window instead of learning it. Day after day, they are being told to memorize a book or a PowerPoint instead of learning what the material is. Although some classes do use paper and project approaches, most classes do not.…

As I came to college, my family and I anticipated I would be following a simple mold of a conscientious student. One that is highly focused in some limited number of long term goals. Don 't get me wrong, this only meant that I had high expectations out of my college education. For some people, this path leads them to great success. But, I slowly realized my vision of success needed to have stories from different roads and bridges, than just one simple path.…

I am interested in the Early College Academy because it is a great opportunity. I understand that I will have to do a lot more work here than in other schools because of the college courses, but that does not matter to me. I will still study and work hard for the duration of my time here. This is the only school in which I can knock off two years of college for free. I also like the schedule here and how it's shorter, but I understand that I will have to use the rest of the time for studying and that's alright for me because in order achieve one's goals one has to work hard and that's what I…

Throughout my years, a barrier that was ever present in my life was the lack of an American citizenship. Society has engraved the idea that immigrants would not be able to graduate high school, let alone attend a prestigious university. Being a critical thinker and an analyst, I decided to take that as a personal goal and prove many wrong. What I began doing was seeking help from the sources available to me: counselors, teachers, and immigration lawyers. With the support from them, I was able to have the confidence in myself that is needed to achieve my success.…

To whom my future classmates may be, what exactly is college writing? I personally think that college writing is similar to high school writing, but more. To emphasize, I think that college writing requires more time, research, revisions, and effort. Whereas high school may be more lenient when it comes to grading, college may not; I feel as if professors may be more strict when it comes to the outline and structure of one’s writing. To be a writer in college, is to do as the professor says and to put more time and effort into your writing.…

Personal Reflective Essay In April of last year I had my first ever audition. I had applied for a place on a part-time college course in Acting and Performance, which I would do during school hours on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. I had mixed feelings about doing the course, if I did it I wouldn’t be able to take Higher Drama at school, but if I didn’t I might be missing out on an amazing opportunity, one that could help me decide if this was something I wanted to do at university and if it was, this course could be a huge help in securing a place. I sent my application away, thinking I could make my decision later, should I get a place.…

The future lies in the hands of those currently in school. Arguably, the most important time is college when one has to choose which career path to pursue. As a junior in high school, I can say that I am definitely feeling the societal pressures to build up a good résumé for colleges to see my full potential. With all the standardized tests, workshops, and advice from teachers and peers since elementary school, it has been instilled in our minds that the standard way of life is to attend elementary school, then high school, then a postsecondary education. While higher education does come with an expensive price tag, I have always been told that those with a college degree make more money than those with just a high school diploma.…

Area 1: Attack Significance My partner says no offering free college education might cause students who have financial difficulties end up looking for alternative ways to meet their material demands. I don’t quite agree with this point because for many college students the primary reasons that they want to be sugar babies are that they can be brought to the fancy restaurants, be provided with generous gifts, and probably with tuition subsidizes. In an article written by Leroy, he mentions that the top factors that attract young students are that sugar daddies are mature enough so that they could build a mutual beneficial relationship with each other, and monogamy is not required. Personally, I think America emphasizes on individual values culturally, and apparently heavily relying on an older man financially is not the best way to earn their tuitions.…
