My Dream As A Teacher Essay

Improved Essays
Teaching is singly one of the most important jobs in the world. Regardless of the salary, I believe it is also one of the most rewarding jobs as well. Without teachers, you would not have educated citizens that can benefit society. Without teachers you wouldn’t learn math, science, and english. You wouldn’t understand the history of the world and how it works. You wouldn’t understand how words can be manipulated and how to speak in other languages. In addition, teaching goes beyond core curriculum and you learn how to be a citizen of the world and how to be responsible and live like an adult. You learn life skills in the classroom such as social skills which is detrimental and something you can’t learn in the comfort of your home. So why …show more content…
After going to Africa and teaching VBS at one of the schools, I decided I wanted to be an elementary teacher. In Africa, students are starving for an education and soak up every word you say like a sponge. Unfortunately, however, the teachers there are only teaching them based off their memory and what they knew. It was sad to see students who value their education so highly, not receiving the education they deserved. My ultimate dream is to go back to Zambia, Africa and set up schools in villages and place well educated teachers there to impact these students lives. Think of how much the government and their society would improve if everyone received a proper education! However, my plans changed when I got to college. I am a work study student at Park Elementary as an America Reads tutor. I realized that elementary teaching would be too much and that I wanted to work with older kids on one or two subjects only. Throughout high school I have always enjoyed and loved world history but it wasn’t until my first semester of college that I decided I wanted to teach it. My Western Civilization teacher inspired me to be a world history teacher. She was so great at what she taught and how she taught that I realized that this is what I wanted to do. I am also adding ESL to my degree because I still would like to go back to Zambia and set up schools and teach

In the article, “A New Deal for Teachers,“ by Mathew Miller, he argues that low income families with students from fourth grade through eighth grade show significantly lower tests scores compared to students from high income areas. This problem Miller addresses, is that there are not enough good teachers in poor cities, and not enough teachers willing to continue their jobs as teachers. Another argument Miller indicates is that having a good quality teacher makes a huge difference in the child’s education and overall development. Miller says that teachers, who do not care about their students and their performance, result in students doing poorly in class academics. One way to resolve these problems is to raise the wages for the teachers, but base salary upon performance and educational background.…

Last year, I sat in on my aunt’s third grade class at Washington Irving, an elementary school in my district that I attended for three years. After visiting the classroom a handful of times, I absolutely fell in love.…

Becoming an educator is one the noblest professions an individual can go into. A teacher can have a powerful impact in a student’s live, both positive and negative. Teaching is one of the few careers that directly affect the future of our nation, and though this may be considered a cliché, the truth of the matter is that you may have a larger impact on children’s lives than some of their parents. You spend hours upon hours with your students, whereas busy or career-driven parents may not have the same opportunities. Becoming an educator is conducive to your home or family life, allows you to see the potential in students, and perhaps most notably, provides the opportunity for you to essentially mold lives within one short calendar year.…
