For the assignment, my focus would be on social issues that we have had over a couple of centuries and issues that still arise today. What has bothered me and still bothers me to this day are the double standards between men and woman and this mindset that a patriarchal society is the only way a society could function properly. This has bothered me my entire life. I have been affected by this at school from friends and teachers and also at work from superiors and at home from family members. I can perfectly recall my grandmother hounding on me to be this pure little girl abstaining from anything that could make me tainted. While doing so, he called all the lower enlisted to move a few 50 caliber weapons from the storage room to the cleaning barrels. Though it is an intimidating looking weapon it only weights around 30 lbs. As we are moving the weapons a female sergeant explodes when she sees me carrying one by myself. I assumed she was angry because I could have been carrying it wrong but she says and I quote "This is not a job for you. You should not be carrying this by yourself. You are just a girl, you need a man to help you." (With all respect and not trying to take any emotion away from the story) I was pissed.I could not understand why out of all people another Non-commissioned Officer would tell me not to do something because I am woman, not a girl. Most of the guys I work with are my age and were struggling with the weapon. I expressed to her how I felt in a tactful manner, yet, after I loaded two more weapons, I was assigned inventory recorder. Simply keeping track of how many weapons we had and checking for serial numbers behind a desk in a safe woman's place. This topic makes me beyond angry and nearly disgusted at the fact that there are still people with this
