Personal Narrative: My Dorm Room

I think that my dorm room is a representation of my front-stage behavior. This is the case because although it is my room, I share it with a friend, and although it is our room, we often have other people in it with us. Dorm rooms are a space in which friends can gather for a party, to study together, or even to watch this week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy. It is more of a public space than a private space in which I can be alone. I keep my dorm room in a manner in which I would publically display; it is neat, it is decorated with things that I enjoy, and it isn’t something that I feel I need to hide and keep only to myself. Because my dorm room is my “home away from home,” I felt as though it was important to decorate and make it as homey and cozy as possible. This being said, I have a lot of …show more content…
First of all is my whiteboard calendar. Now to most this may seem like a mundane “prop,” but for me, it is a lifesaver. I am a very organized person, and this calendar is essential for keeping me organized and on-task, all while adding some fun color to the plain white walls. Family is something that I value highly, and so the many photos that I have of my siblings, dog, and family are some of my favorites. The elephant tapestry was given to me from my dad after a trip that he took to India, so not only is it special to me in that way, but elephants are also my favorite animal, and someday I want to get a tattoo of 3 elephants in order to represent myself and my two younger siblings. One final decoration that I have hanging is my Justin Bieber poster; now this is something that I am often criticized

For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

The crisp breeze rustled my hair as I walked out of my house on the fall September day with my dad drilling instructions into my head. It was my first Little League baseball game ever, and my dad wanted to make sure it wasn’t my last. Being seven years old and never touching a baseball was something that had scared me; a lot. I had no idea what to think about this foreign, petrifying, game could possibly be about. The car ride from my house was only a few minutes away from the fields where I would begin my baseball career.…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

In my education, I want neither too rigid of a core curriculum nor to loose of one. Yale has the perfect middle where there is a third part of the curriculum that is my choice, allowing me to study my other interests outside the range of my major. Also, after visiting Yale, I found the welcoming environment for which I was looking, especially with residential colleges. Having my residential college chosen for me is appealing as well as the great things in each of the colleges like the Buttery and movie theaters that I heard…

If you're handy with a sewing machine, there are lots of ways you can recycle what you already have to make beautiful and inexpensive home decorating items. This was resultant of the necessary medication being potentially fatal for minors. When I finally was able to start on the medication it changed my life, however at that point I only had a month of high school left and there was nothing I could do to remedy my awful grades.
