My Diet Analysis Report

Growing up I knew about vitamin E, C, A, D, however, I did not know that there are thousands of vitamins and minerals. I felt overwhelmed after reading this chapter because there is so much to look out for and looking at my diet analysis report I never really considered vitamins, because I just assumed that I am consuming them from my fruits and veggies which I am lacking. According to Colleen and Smith, “Although the vitamins are essential nutrients, the amount of vitamins we need to prevent deficiency is small” (2016, p. 275). Thus, I think a lot of people do not think much about the vitamin content of their foods. Yet, vitamins are also important because they assist in digestion, absorption and metabolism (Aschidamini, 2017). Maybe people do not think much about vitamin content until it’s brought up to their attention like how I mentioned in my first post in chapter two. It all ties back to people being unaware of dietary guidelines until …show more content…
As I mentioned in a previous post, the amount I eat each day varies so I am not surprised that in some areas I am lacking certain vitamins, minerals, or other dietary nutrients. The diet analysis is not 100% accurate because it tricky to enter certain foods, yet, it does give us a general idea of how our diets are. To improve my nutrient density of my diet I have to eat more veggies and fruits. I know that sometimes I only eat one serving of veggies and fruits, which is not enough so my plan is to eat more fruits as snacks and add more veggies to my lunch and dinner. I already include a lot of chicken and fish into my diet so I can probably add meat to my diet a bit more often. Plus, I only eat wheat and whole grain bread and toritllas, I think my issue sis that I do not consume enough calories in the day to reach the DRI goals for the vitamin intakes. Thus, my overall goal is to consume more calories, healthy ones of

Health and nutrition, particularly my own, is something I have taken special interest in lately as I’ve come to realize I’m rapidly approaching the second half of my life and want it to be as good as, or even better than, the first half. If I were to be asked eight weeks ago if I was a healthy person, my answer would be a resounding, “Yes;” my regular physicals and blood work confirming my response. And while I still believe that to be true, what an eye opener the Diet Analysis project was, as far as understanding my actual nutritional intake in comparison to the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) of nutrients recommended for optimal health and well-being. The following paragraphs not only detail the Diet Analysis PLUS program used for this project,…

I am eating an okay amount of fruit, however I could eat a little bit less. In the dairy group I ate half a cup less of dairy than the USDA recommends I eat. The recommendation of dairy I should eat a day is three cups, on average I ate about two and a half cups a day. There is no specific amount of milk, yogurt, or cheese, so I ate about one and three fourths cups of milk and yogurt a day, and about three fourths of a cup of cheese a day. I should be eating more dairy in my diet.…

We are living in an age of nutritionism, which varies so much from original tradition diets focused on food as opposed to nutrients. The Western diet falls short of adequately providing nutrition, and the results are telling with how pervasive chronic diseases are now. Healthful eating provides many benefits and an opportunity to enjoy foods on a greater level in new ways, however it does take more effort to upkeep. The context in which foods and nutrients are consumed has great importance, and balanced use of knowledge of nutrients and foods as a whole is…

To be more specific the report says I am under in calcium, which I can counter by adding more dairy in my diet like milk, cheese and yogurt. According to the report, my saturated fat is over and greater than 10% which is not good. Reducing my fat intake by consuming lean meats like sirloin instead of ribeye will help tremendously also changing the oils it is cooked in, for example switching from canola to olive oil will greatly reduce the saturated fat intake this will also help in lowering cholesterol and further aid in weight loss. Likewise my dietary fiber is also low by 18% and by consuming more fiber can aid in my body to better dealing with my saturated fat issue. Consuming more fiber can also help in the Linoleic acid which is derived from vegetables and adding vegetables like dark greens, this is the solution for the two problems in my mineral report.…

In the future I will adjust my diet by eating the appropriate nutrients for my body to function. In this, I will need to eat more fruits, because my results were not good in that category. I can add some whole fruits as a snack, rather than eating potato chips. My dairy category was not up to par, either. I must admit I do not drink milk, unless it is with cereal.…

I have included a table comparing my diet’s food group servings in comparison to the CFG recommended servings. It is evident that my diet did not conform to the serving numbers recommended in CFG. I’m not consuming nearly enough milk or grain products while my meat and alternatives intake is astronomical in comparison. I predicted that my milk and alternatives score would be very low as I don’t include dairy products in my diet other than chocolate milk and creamer in coffee. Because of the avoidance of dairy products, my milk and alternatives servings value was very low.…

One example of indirect evidence of diet would be skeletal indicators of dietary insufficiency. The lack of vitamin D commonly results in rickets, the lack of vitamin C results in scurvy, and the lack of iron results in iron deficiency anemia. One thing these pathologies all share in common is that they all affect the skeletal system in one way or another. Rickets can be seen in the skeletal record by observing the cranium and bones of the leg, because the lack of vitamin D causes malabsorption of calcium which thus causes inadequate mineralization of bone in subadults. For adults, skeletal evidence is in the flattening of the cranial vault.…
