I 'm a sophomore in college now and I still feel like my literacy is still growing and evolving. One of my earliest memories I could relate to was as a teenager I had a teacher named Mr.Jago and he made interested in becoming literate. He made me experience growth in the classroom and learn moral values to embrace being creative with my writing. As the son of two hard working parents, I learned there is nothing free in this world and that you have to take everything you can get for not granted. Honestly I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to say my biggest struggle was how to start a paper because I felt embarrassed of myself because I felt I was the only one that struggle with it the most. I always struggle with the writing part in previous english classes I think the reason behind that was because no one never made it interesting to learn. With Mr. Jago as my teacher he made me strive for better grades and not just in his class. He made literacy important to me. He made me more confident in my writing Mr.jago made it worth me investing my focus in my weaknesses. Having that knowledge, even translated onto the football

Prior to opening Content Area Reading: Literacy and Learning Across the Curriculum (Vacca et al., 2014), I had never thought of literacy as something that was vital to a high school math class. I was under the assumption that math was comprised of working through problems with students to find the solution, but I now recognize that there is greater knowledge to teach and learn. Chapter one of Content Area Reading opened my eyes to the importance of teaching content literacy. A study conducted by Harold Herder (1964) demonstrates this point, for he found that “students who used ‘study guides’ to read a physics text significantly outperformed those students who did not use guides to read the content under study”(Vacca, 2014, p. 18). Students who were assisted in understanding how to read the material comprehended a greater amount of what they were reading.…
