Why Arizona Is Home To Me

Home
Home can be defined in several different ways. Some people define home as a place, while others define home by the people who reside in it. Home can be defined by feelings emotions or thoughts a person may have. To me “[h]ome has always been a relative term” (Adesole 284). Home used to depend on the location I was in but as I grew up home gradually changed into a specific place. The place I call home is Arizona. Arizona is home for several reasons. The first reason why Arizona is home to me is because majority of my family lives there. Another reason why Arizona is home is because it fosters positive feelings for myself and there are vast amounts of activities that I can participate in. Lastly, Arizona has introduced me to the sport of

While visiting family in Arizona, one activity that I was introduced to, was Pickleball. Pickleball is a form of a sport that is a combination of tennis and ping-pong. It is a very physically demanding sport that I enjoy playing with my grandparents. I have been playing Pickleball since I was eight years old. It is the primary activity that everyone participates in because it is a very popular sport in Arizona. Another activity that people and myself enjoy is hiking. There are numerous locations in Arizona where people can go hiking. My favorite place to hike is the Grand Canyon. Everyone thinks that the Grand Canyon is just a bunch of rocks everywhere and there is nothing to see but, these people are wrong. In fact, in 1908 the Grand Canyon “was declared a national monument […] and national park” (Williams 61). It is still declared as “one of the most beautiful places in our country to visit” (Williams 61). There are lakes within the Grand Canyon where you can swim, helicopter rides throughout the canyon, horseback riding, and so much more. The Grand Canyon provides lots of fun activities for those who are active and want to set out on an adventure. However, these activities would not be doable without the beautiful weather this state provides. The only thing a person must worry about while living in Arizona is scorpions and sand storms. Other than that, it is nothing but sun, …show more content…
My cousin Tyler is the person who introduced CrossFit to me when he brought me to one of their classes. After my first session, I knew I found my new hobby. But to my dismay, I could not find a CrossFit gym around my home in Illinois. Luckily about six months ago, Fox River Strength and Conditioning opened his doors. Ever since January of 2017, I have been committed to CrossFit and I could not thank Tyler enough for introducing this to me. CrossFit has provided me with a new healthy lifestyle which has increased my confidence about myself and my abilities while working out. It has provided me with a second family, which we are known as “CrossFam.” This community is very positive and uplifting which I enjoy very much because everyone is very encouraging and not belittling to anyone. Everyone walks in feeling confident in their abilities and what they can do and there is not a single judgement in the room. Everyone wants everyone to succeed which makes going to CrossFit enjoyable and helps me make a consistent effort to go every day to do the best that I can. If it was not for my Arizona family, I do not think the idea of CrossFit would ever have crossed my mind. I now consider CrossFit to be a place I can call home away from home. I cannot thank my cousin enough for introducing me to CrossFit. If it were not for him, I would not be where I am at today with my new

In the essay “Why Place Matters” Wilfred McClay and Ted McAllister argue that the loss of one's connection to a physical place results in the loss of individuality and one's public virtues. They fear that the importance of “place” seems to be fading and is now currently being replaced with a world that is deemed ‘placeless’ and thrives only on technology. They claim that place is an essential part for one to have a set of memories that build up a self identity. This self identity allows for a sense of responsibility that one has for their own community. They believe one cannot be apart of society without being a part of a place within that society.…

When the word “home” is defined in a dictionary you are given definitions like “the place in which one’s domestic affections are centered” or “any place of residence or refuge” but to me home means so much more. Theatre transports me to places I couldn’t dream of otherwise and two years ago, I was taken to a place that would change my life forever and theatre transformed to the place I call home. Everyone in the world most likely has a different meaning and understanding of the frequently used word, “home”. There is so many ways to define home. Per Dictionary.com, home is defined as, “a house, apartment, or other shelter that is the usual residence of a person, family, or household” or “the place or region where something is native or most common.” Except, these definitions are very general and do not really explain the true meaning of a home. As we see in The Glass Castle Jeannette and the Walls family mainly describe home as a place where they can stay for some time before having to leave due to bills or something along the lines.…

I have also had the opportunity to meet many different people from around the country and even the world from going to different seminars and training camps, none of which I would have been at unless I was involved at the gym.…
