Health Definition

What is my definition of Health? If asked this question at the beginning of the school year, the answer would have been completely different. The answer would have been that health is displayed at the individual level, where the individual is physically and mentally free from any sort of illness or injury. But, this has changed after the first couple of months of University. After attending and listening to all the professors and teaching assistants, deciding what’s best suited for the community for the upcoming federal election and observing my current surroundings and important family values and the different cultures has shaped my definition of what health is. This definition should be what the majority of people should think what health is because it accommodates for all aspects that contribute to the health and well-being of everyone’s life. Having the amazing opportunity to major in Health Studies, in particular, health management the majority of the classes itself are interrelated in some sort of way. The biggest idea that is rather similar amongst these classes is how they define what health is and how health should be provided to the people in need around the world. But in health studies, the professor explains that health is defined differently depending on the individual but, there are four broad concepts of what is health. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners use herbal medicines and various mind and body practices, such as acupuncture and tai chi, to treat or prevent health problems (“Traditional Chinese Medicine”, n.d.). In the book Essentials of Chinese medicine by Zhanwen Lui he says, “Methodology in Chinese Medicine developed in the course of explorations in human physiology, pathology, diagnostics and preventive medicine, as well as the relationships between the human body and the surrounding natural environment. Knowledge of this methodology is essential in the study and mastery of CM theory.” (Lui, 2009) This particular discipline focuses mainly on natural and interbody connects to eradicate health issues and enhance healthy living.
