1) My definition of family is a close-knit group of people who genuinely care for one another. I say close-knit because I do not feel as though you need to be a blood relative to be considered family. Some of the people I consider to be my family, are close friends that I have known for a very long time.
2) I believe that the American Family is just changing, not necessarily for the better or for the worse. Back in the old days, a male and female couple would marry at a very young age. This was expected of them. However in today’s society, a large number of people are waiting until they are significantly older to marry. Thus, I believe ethical issues are such an important consideration in social science research because you do not have to worry about biased opinions in their findings. With no funding directly related to the topic being researched, you can expect to get hard facts and not persuaded findings that would help benefit the funding company or researcher to make more money. This would be important for research done on things ranging from medicines or drugs, to college enrollment statistics, or even baby products and toys. The average person wants to know the truth about those topics, without having to search all over the Internet to find out that the person giving them such ‘helpful’ information was also benefiting from their research in some …show more content…
One of these myths is that black fathers are normally absent from their children’s lives. Another is that black families are said to matriarchal or primarily run by the eldest female. This normally means the grandmother, mother, or eldest daughter. Finally the last myth I choose to include is that in which black children are less intelligent in school than other races. These myths, no mater how untrue or outlandish they are, still persist because people still allow them to. If everyone did research and checked their facts before they choose to speak on hurtful myths, I believe it would be possible for these myths to be put to rest. If a person hears someone speaking of these myths, and they know the truth in regards to the subject, they should educate the guilty party, and set the record straight. I have never chosen to believe such myths about the American American family, simply because I feel as though African American families are just like another other family group. Every family group has it’s shortcomings, but who is to say that given the exact same life situation in a White or Latino family, that they would not have the same myths said about
