An incident that made me feel the truth of the proverb “it’s better late than never” was my decision to return to school. My family of six resided in Bay d’Espoir, a picturesque small town with an average population of eight hundred people located on the South Coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. My parents still live in our family home today overlooking a scenic view of the ocean. Being the youngest and only girl to three brothers all of whom left home after high school to explore employment opportunities made me put my life in perspective and recognize I wanted more. Even though, obtaining a college diploma was an achievement, I feel continuing with post-secondary education today gives me the true value that when something happens later in life, it is not always a bad thing. …show more content…
Deciding which pathway suited me while growing up within a remote community was a huge decision. I would ask myself, did I want to search for employment or enrol into a post-secondary college. Either way, the desire to do well in life meant departure from home was evident. My parents had both dropped out of school at an exceptionally young age to work and help support their families. Their goal for all four kids was for the kids to do well and earn their high school diplomas. After we completed high school my parents stood proud at graduation. Prior to concluding Grade 12 I consulted with the career counsellor at my school to discuss my post-secondary options. Continuing education was necessary to me even though lacking competence and courage deterred me from attending University at that point in time. Therefore, I decided to submit an application to compu college and I gratefully got accepted into their Office Administration
