My Decision To Go To College

Improved Essays
My mother and father both have earned Bachelor's degrees, and my father was the first generation of his family to attend college. Thus, my decision to go to college was strongly influenced by my parents, who encouraged and supported me emotionally throughout my education. My mother, who first attended the University of Washington but later graduated from Washington State University, studied medicine, and is now a registered nurse. My father, however, completed his entire education in criminal justice at Washington State University, though he has now worked over twenty-five years at the Boeing Company. Since the day I was born, my parents worked long and hard to support me financially to ensure that I also have the opportunity to attend college.

I have opted to enter college “undecided”. I have done so in order to prevent myself from switching majors multiple times once enrolled as so many others have been known to do. Rather, I plan to complete my prerequisite courses during my freshman and into my sophomore year. Then, once I’ve had the opportunity to speak with others in the career trajectories of my interests (anatomy/physiology, anthropology, medical technology), I’ll make a decision on the additional courses I will need to take toward my decided major. Once I have a degree in my desired field, I hope to get a job directly out of college in order to begin paying off the student loans that I accumulate.…
