A specific event that contributed to my decision to pursue a residency in family medicine occurred during clerkship. I was taking care of a young woman, diagnosed with lymphoma. The tumor grew to about the size of a cantaloupe encircling her entire neck. I asked why it took her so long to seek medical attention. A wider scope of practice, from pediatrics to geriatrics would mean greater opportunities to care for people and learn from them. Your program’s concern for your resident’s well being is exceptional. The unopposed OB/GYN will offer so much learning experiences, which is what I am looking for. My OB/GYN rotation was totally hands on and I enjoyed every minute of it. In the future, my plan is to train in hospital medicine, provide healthcare and be a liaison between the patient, their families and other medical professionals. I would also love to have the opportunity to impart knowledge and aid in the development of skills of new residents. I strongly believe that your program offers an excellent training ground.
