Drenched in sweat, legs tired, heart pounding, and the finish line in sight. At this point I will go as far as to crawl just to finish the race I didn’t train for. My body was conditioned to run the 200-meter dash, but my coach picked me to also run the 400-meter race, last minute. Letting my team down was definitely not an option. The last leg of the race was arduous to say the least but I pulled through and never gave up. My drive and determination to succeed gave me the strength to do so.

A specific event that contributed to my decision to pursue a residency in family medicine occurred during clerkship. I was taking care of a young woman, diagnosed with lymphoma. The tumor grew to about the size of a cantaloupe encircling her entire neck. I asked why it took her so long to seek medical attention. She said that she was afraid of the medical costs and would rather spend that money to put food on the table for her kids. Having to decide between health and hunger

A wider scope of practice, from pediatrics to geriatrics would mean greater opportunities to care for people and learn from them. Your program’s concern for your resident’s well being is exceptional. The unopposed OB/GYN will offer so much learning experiences, which is what I am looking for. My OB/GYN rotation was totally hands on and I enjoyed every minute of it. In the future, my plan is to train in hospital medicine, provide healthcare and be a liaison between the patient, their families and other medical professionals. I would also love to have the opportunity to impart knowledge and aid in the development of skills of new residents. I strongly believe that your program offers an excellent training ground. Allow me to showcase my knowledge and capabilities as a resident physician and provide care for my patients. I am ready to venture in this journey, a marathon we call residency and face the challenges

I consider myself fortunate. I rarely get sick, I have never broken a bone, and I have never needed any kind of extensive medication. I consider myself fortunate not only because I have never had to deal with the trauma of having a serious medical emergency, but also because I have never truly had to deal with the healthcare system. Given the few short interactions I have had to have with my insurance company I know that having to deal with insurance is nothing but a headache. I hope that by the time I need to call on my insurance in a major way there will be fixes made to their system.…

I am also scheduled to observe in a outpatient primary care clinic. After completing an Internal Medicine residency, I want to obtain further training. The field of training I am further interested in will probably become clearer as I train in Internal Medicine and get exposed to the different specialty rotations. I see myself being an internist who will advocate for the underestimated and undervalued power of preventive medicine as well as someone who will enunciating on furthering the practice the evidence based medicine. I believe I am a hardworking and compassionate human being who is a great listener, has a strong work ethic and practices good communication skills.…
