My Decision Of Not Listening

Decent Essays
A decision I had to go through is whether I was going to listen or not. I chose to listen because my dad said that if I didn’t listen to him and my mom when he was at work I would not get nothing. He said that if I did listen I could pretty much have anything I wanted that was reasonable anyway. If I would have went down the road of not listening then I would not have anything I have right now but what you need to live. I chose this road because I really did want to have everything I need to live plus everything I wanted. For example, my birthday was 2 days ago and 6 months before that I was not listening and I told him that I wanted a bike for my birthday and I listened from then on and got a nice bike.

When you choose a decision do you look at the other choices, or do you see what you want and go for it? Prejudice is the one feature that makes us like certain things or decisions over others. It is the control system in the back of everyone’s mind, we all have it from the first decisions in all our lives. Think you aren’t prejudice? Look back to the last time you went grocery shopping, remember what you bought?…

Is life on the road for everyone? Life on the road is not for everybody which in theory is understandable because traveling can be unpredictable. People who do not like to travel have their reasons; some people may say that they dislike traveling because they find it to be boring, while others will say that traveling causes them to stress due to fear of the unknown and therefore would rather avoid unnecessary worries and fears. There is also many thrill-seeking people who find that traveling the open-road is adventurous and that it gives them a sense of freedom because they are not tied down to any one specific area.…

Some of the choices I have made are ones that I regret, but I know they were important experiences for me. In My Personal GPS, the game Squirrel! had my character choosing between completing their homework and talking with their friends. I kept my avatar along the academic path and focused on completing my work. In real life, I often make the same decisions for a number of reasons.…

This past semester we read a great deal of works with many different ideas behind them. We read poems of love, war, and death. Short stories of life, hope, and slavery. In all of this literature I found it interesting how similar the minds of humans today and the minds of the humans of the past are. Although the circumstances are different the drive is the same.…

It’s very strange how one experience or choice you make in your life can change the rest of your life that follows that event, would you then in turn change these decisions you made. Such as your what if your mom conceived you not on the knowing basis. What if everyone was telling her not to because she was to be a single mom and that’s not a world a child should be born into, but then what if she challenged this belief that she grew up with. This then in turn affected all her choices later in life, but then vice versa what if she didn't challenge this belief and stuck with what she knew. This may be of the more extreme choices in life that some people must make but we all have that certain time in our life that comes where we must break away and make…

People do not tend to stand up for others or for themselves, because they think people will judge them. Letting the world know who you are is all that matters, be proud of yourself and have goodness in your heart. This reminds me of the time I stood up to and for my dad who I love, but likes to blame things on me because he has a drinking problem. He did not like the way I raised myself nor was he proud of the person I am. This is kind of like Elizabeth Proctor who stood up for someone she loved, but also for herself.…

A dilemma that I faced, and still am facing is simply the decision about what I want to do with my life after my high school career. In my freshman year of high school my goal was simply to get through the year in one piece. I was forced to conform to my new environment and all the strict rules that came along with it. Along with that it was the sudden transition from being the "big dogs" as eighth graders at my middle school to being "fresh-meat" in my first year high school. With so much attention placed on me as a freshman like on the varsity basketball team, where I was constantly forced to prove my worth to the coach and the players, to stepping out of my comfort zone and performing in a mandatory play for the rest of the the school as…

How many of us have ever just back down when we meet challenges? Where people did not even try putting in the effort of resolving the problem or pick up all the pieces of where we fall from and the difficulties to get back up. There are so many definitions of the word loyalty how do you know which one to use or what loyalty means. The main word you see in the definition of loyalty is support, whether that be supporting someone or something. For me, loyalty is staying by someone’s side and supporting their decisions even when you don't fully agree with it. This could be with your parents, in a relationship, or it could even go for your favorite sports team. Parents are a good example of this.…

Kyle, You brought up some excellent points on the various examples of ineffective listening that took place between Josh and his father. I believe Josh's father monopolized the conversation as well as used "selective listening". He was using two monopolizing tactics that Wood describes as conversational rerouting and interrupting. Josh’s dad continually turned the conversation back to himself and his experiences in college with fraternities. (Wood, page 122) He also kept interrupting Josh.…

Introduction “The concepts of ethics, character, right and wrong, and good and evil have captivated humankind ever since we began to live in groups, communicate, and pass judgment on each others ' actions based on motivation, group rules and norms, and intermediate and end results.” After reading that in the syllabus, I became incredibly intrigued as to what was to come in this class. Ethics not only effects information technology but the whole world and throughout the course we have been able to link ethical considerations to all aspects, with focus on information technology.
