My Dash Research Paper

Life's made up of two dates and a dash, this is my dash. Throughout my entire life I was raised on strict family values which has often included family time. Although I’ve survived being held to a higher standard there’s been many trials, tribulations, and obstacles that have stood in my path on my journey of life. Even with everything that's happened in my life I have still managed to become a stronger individual. Your dash is an insignificant character on your headstone; this is mine expanded as my story. On every free weekend I’ve had for as long as I can remember: we’ve packed up the family, the four wheelers, and the camper then proceeded to hit the road for a camping trip. Nevertheless, each weekend spent together was nothing close to a dull moment. One of my favorite memories was on a weekend when a ,tornado hit at the campground we were staying at and we took cover in the back of our “sturdy,” tornado shelter, on the couch in the back of our camper, until the storm had passed. Meanwhile, on our camping trips, we’d find time to relax and go to fishing tournaments during our busy weekends. Stereotypically you …show more content…
In fact, "C's" in school would have been almost as bad as dying the white dog pink in my house. I've always continued to be held to a perfect student, teachers pet, good grades nonsense; which has always proven not a challenge for me. Balancing school and responsibilities of growing up when I was just twelve, with two children, gave me no excuse to misbehave. There is never a time in my life when I've been able to rebel, sneak out, or step out of line when it came to my family. No one's life is an easy paved path with out curves, bumps, mountains; these are only routine, placed in our paths to shape us into the people we have become

Kohn’s article “The Case against Grades” (Kohn, 2011) effectively captures the anxiety that most students have about grades. “In fact, students would be a lot better off without either of these relics from a less enlightened age” (Kohn, 2011) Kohn writes. I agree with Kohn’s position in this article because there were many days in high school where I remember skipping due to the fact that I didn’t fully understand what was being taught to me. I, in turn, grew anxious about not being good enough and started failing.…

My friends and I have been having a hard week and we wanted to just relax so I suggested to them my lake house house. They wanted a little bit more rustic feel to camping but none of us really had any actual camping gear so we just opted for the lake house. We got all the essentials for the weekend: bug repellent, snacks, a radio, and a friendly little card game to take our minds off the world back at home. Everything was going smooth until it hit about six-ish, that’s when everything just seemed to get a little bit more stressful. When, at the store, we got everything a girl could ask for and then some, we got brownies, chips, stuff to make milkshakes, ect.…

I moved from San Diego, California to Derby, Kansas in the summer of 2017. I joined Derby Middle School, I hadn’t been to a real middle school before, even though I was in seventh grade. I was in online schooling with K-12 at home. I was new to multiple classes and teachers, assignments on paper, and I was new to a lot of people around me. When I joined Derby Middle School, I thought of it like nothing, thinking that no effort would get me through the year, I thought that my grades didn’t matter as long as I get C or higher.…

My parents have always challenged me to strive to do my best since I was a child. From pushing me to learn how to ride a bike at age five, to striving me to achieve a higher ACT score to attend the college I love, I learned how to become very independent and credible. As I approached my high school years, I changed mentally by creating a positive mindset after my freshman year. As to this day, getting a 3.11-grade point average has affected me in both positive and negative ways. One characteristic that I figured out about myself is that I am a person who learns from mistakes due to the fact that I am a tactile learner.…

Long, wide roads, small houses, and steel fences were my view as I walked into an unfamiliar building called Thomas Jefferson Middle School. I did not know anything about the culture or the language; a huge chill came over me, which I have never felt before. I felt goose bumps as I first walked in the building. The building was old and was not well cared for. The colors of the walls were fading and the elevators made the sound of a dying animal when it moved.…

The Grades Challenge Freshman year was a difficult year for my grades. I was failing a few classes and it seemed like the harder I focused on the percentage, the farther I got away from it. I talked to my teachers about how I could try to get my grades up and was simply told “you won’t get a better grade.” I was stuck with what I had is what I was told, and they ended up being right about that year. I was worried that maybe something was wrong; maybe I wasn’t as smart as I used to be.…

he didn’t tell Logan that he needed to catch up. Our parents required us to get half B’s and half C’s: grades that weren’t great, but not too bad, either. Good grades as well as poor grades attracted attention, and attention of any kind could be disastrous. Jillian and Logan purposely answered test questions wrong so their names wouldn’t be published on the honor roll. I had to study hard to make those B’s and C’s.…

The most important learning aspect in life is not dependent on your grades in school. It is dependent on how you use your imagination and learn who you really are as a person. In the beginning of “School of Rock” the students only focused on school and their grades instead of enjoying school and finding out who they were as individuals. In “Another Brick in the Wall- Part Two”, by Pink Floyd, it is about telling the teachers to “leave the kids alone because they do not need an education.”…

He asserts, “Let me make it clear that I recommend giving those F’s – by the dozens, hundreds, thousands, even millions – only to students who haven’t learned the required material” (192). However giving more F’s to the students does not prove that they deserve the grade. An F should be given to the students that deserves it, such as students that do not do their homework, do not show up to class, or cheat on test/homework. If a student does things that show that they deserve the F, then it should be given. In a recent discussion with parent LaToya Jackson, a mother of two, she discussed that although the educational system has a few flaws, she feel that giving more F’s to students would not solve the problems throughout the educational system.…
