Topic B The thing that defines me in such an essential way is my love for dance. I began dancing when I was four or five years old. My mother never told why she put me in dance classes but I’ve been thankful ever since. My first memory of dance is the costumes. I remember as a child, completely in love with all the costumes, always playing dress up and throwing on music for little performances by myself. Dance was my first passion when I didn’t even know what that meant. Another memory was one my mother told me. On the day of my first performance, while waiting backstage to go on, my entire class was crying because they were scared. My mother said I wasn’t though. In fact, I was so excited and ready to get on the stage and just have fun in my cute little costume. From what I …show more content…

That sometimes, you have to put in an effort outside of classes to truly improve. To learn and pick up choreography quickly and to juggle remembering multiple dances for studio and competition. I hit a plateau in my studio training the same year I tried out for my high school’s drill team and made it. From there, my training, technique, and skills improved and I’ve managed to learn many valuable life skills. Drill team has taught me numerous skills over the three years I’ve been with them. Time management because of extremely precise and strange times, such as 6:58 am practices and 5:11 pm roll calls. Time management also applied when it came to my schoolwork because of the numerous advanced classes I’ve taken. It enforced in me the southern manners I never grew up with, being required to always use “ma’am” and “thank you” with my directors. I’ve learned how to effectively manage difficult people, considering I have to spend around ten hours a week with the same 61 girls and two

I found it showed my talents, where it seemed like I had not any other place. It seemed to become close to the point of an obsession, as I would lose myself in the rhythm of the music. All the hours put in dance were not in vain, however; rather, for every minute put in, became twice as good as before. My dance instructor noticed my talent and I was offered to be a part of the prestigious performance team. I felt the rush of energy shooting up as I considered the opportunity, only to have it quickly brought down, by a yearning in my heart for something even greater- even more than dance.…

Not the long, endless hours of rehearsals, or the aching pain, but the movements. From the same article, Manfred Fischbeck says, “When you look at somebody dancing, you see who that person is.” Fischbeck not only enjoys the choreography, but the story and personality one can receive from it. To him, that is the beauty of dancing; being able to know someone's story without being acquainted with them. Bazell and Fischbeck are not the only ones that think dance is beautiful no matter how it is created.…

Or who could forget their embarrassing first play or performance of some sort? Mine was a horrible elementary school rendition of ‘I will always love you’ by Whitney Houston, practicing for days to try to remember the song, just to have a three minute bit on stage with overwhelmingly proud parents watching who didn't care whether we did right or wrong regardless. Experiences like these surrounded me, and I swelled with happiness over being able to undergo such a variety of life. It was the innocence of being a child, I was excited about everything and willing to try anything the world presented to…

I spent countless hours in dance studios growing up, working tirelessly to hone these skills and perfect technique. A lifetime of dance taught me what it means to have discipline and dedication to a craft, values which I have also seen reflected in my clinical experiences. Medicine is a practice which calls for just as much discipline, dedication, and drive.…

The formation of dance has lived on this world for many generations as we continue to pass through history. When I went to the wonderful performance at Pierce College I experienced a whole new perspective on dancing. The concert had many types of students performing mixed dance projects of all types like solos and duets. There was an average size of one to eight dancers per project which made it the ideal size for the concert. I really enjoyed the creativity and effort put into this performance.…

For more than five years, I have assisted in primary dance classes and at children’s summer dance camps. In the beginning it was exciting to volunteer: I got to hang out with the older dancers whom I looked up to and I could spend so much time at the studio. As I matured, the initial excitement wore off: days of crazy children, plugged toilets and giving up other, less demanding activities forced me to question why I volunteered. Ultimately, my passion for dance won me over, and is the reason that I continue to help at the studio. It is hard to explain the value of dance in my life.…
