Living a life that is filled with the desires of God can be quite challenging for most individuals, and if people allow their wants and needs to stand in the path of God’s will, life will only become more challenging and fruitless. God’s design for my life may be completely opposite of how I foresee the end results of my lifespan, so I have learned how to decipher when the Holy Spirit is interjecting and redirecting where I am supposed to be in areas of my life. In this paper, there will be an elucidation on how I discovered my current educative pathway, along with a look at how my vocations were revealed to me and gave me a sense of purpose and direction. I knew that the Lord God was there for me and I knew that He had a plan for me after the car accident, but I still wasn’t entirely sure where I needed to be in order for me to connect with the Lord on a deeper level. I became increasingly aware of my unpalatable practices and realized that I needed to dig into the Bible to draw nearer to His voice. The church that I was currently attending had small groups that met every week, and I figured this would be a good place to find out who God was to me. I decided to join a small group that covered the topic of knowing God and understanding His presence. After joining the class, the session leader opened my eyes to realities of where God needed me according to my professed gift of encouragement. I began thinking long and hard about an area where I could share my love for the Lord, so I began looking at different career options which would allow me to share the light of …show more content…
Vocationally, God revealed to me that I needed to attain my law degree which would help grow His kingdom of followers. Once I had found my purpose and direction at that point in my life, I began talking with family about my future pedagogical goals. My Father questioned my major similarly to Weaver (1989) who was quizzed by his father who wondered why he was feeling the need to major in a certain field that he was eager to pursue. Once my Father was done inquiring about my schooling and career goals, he began to reflect back on my musical performing days in high school, and how he wished I would have followed his dream of me being a professional cellist. Tan (1989) mentions a comparable situation to mine where her mother thought she “could be a Chinese Shirley Temple” (p. 371). As Tan trained to be just like Shirley Temple from the movies and took classes, she felt like she was being pressured into a career that would not please God. After my father acknowledged that God had a better plan for me, he found it in his heart to accept that God’s will for my life was outside of his control.
