I knew that the Lord God was there for me and I knew that He had a plan for me after the car accident, but I still wasn’t entirely sure where I needed to be in order for me to connect with the Lord on a deeper level. I became increasingly aware of my unpalatable practices and realized that I needed to dig into the Bible to draw nearer to His voice. The church that I was currently attending had small groups that met every week, and I figured this would be a good place to find out who God was to me. I decided to join a small group that covered the topic of knowing God and understanding His presence. After joining the class, the session leader opened my eyes to realities of where God needed me according to my professed gift of encouragement. I began thinking long and hard about an area where I could share my love for the Lord, so I began looking at different career options which would allow me to share the light of …show more content…
Vocationally, God revealed to me that I needed to attain my law degree which would help grow His kingdom of followers. Once I had found my purpose and direction at that point in my life, I began talking with family about my future pedagogical goals. My Father questioned my major similarly to Weaver (1989) who was quizzed by his father who wondered why he was feeling the need to major in a certain field that he was eager to pursue. Once my Father was done inquiring about my schooling and career goals, he began to reflect back on my musical performing days in high school, and how he wished I would have followed his dream of me being a professional cellist. Tan (1989) mentions a comparable situation to mine where her mother thought she “could be a Chinese Shirley Temple” (p. 371). As Tan trained to be just like Shirley Temple from the movies and took classes, she felt like she was being pressured into a career that would not please God. After my father acknowledged that God had a better plan for me, he found it in his heart to accept that God’s will for my life was outside of his control. Another author who explains my discipleship vocation effortlessly is Hardy (1990) who suggest to those who inquire about their vocation, to choose to read the Bible so they can “become the kind of people

We are all called to fill multiple roles during our life. In chapters 5-8 of God at Work, Veith (2002) explains the importance of each of these vocations and how they intermix with each other. In looking at each of these, it is important to note that one vocation does not carry more power than another. Veith explains how God works through us in each of the vocations of worker, family member, citizen, and church member to love and serve our neighbor.…

Give examples of how the practice of ministry has affected your experience and understanding of A) God At the core of my understanding of God is a God of love in covenantal relationship with God’s children. Romans 8:38-39 says it well; “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The practice of ministry has only proven to strengthen that belief. I was called early Saturday morning to sit with a family who had just learned of the death of their daughter/granddaughter in a vehicle accident.…

Any rich story weaves in symbolism and foreshadowing. This enhances the meaning of the narrative, gives the audience clues to the future, and sets the stage for multiple themes. The drama of the Bible checks all of these boxes and then some. Although there are many characters in the first formative years of Israel’s existence, the character of Joshua, leads Israel into a temporary Promised Land, which foreshadows the role that Jesus plays in the unfolding narrative. Joshua was critical to the establishment of Israel as their own country, leading them to a land to call their own.…

I seek to make a change in this world that ripples beyond my immediate circle. Often individuals, particularly students, are told that this world is a cruel place and they must learn to withstand it. My hope as a future educator is to teach students that the world is not a place to be withstood; that is not their purpose: they are here to make the world a little less cruel. Perhaps I could do this within my personal relationships but, as a Christian, I am called to go out into the world and share the gospel. The gospel is overflowing with sacrificial love and I hope my career mirrors the love I have received from Christ.…

When I started to read the book titled "The Fabric of This World", I felt that need to reread the history in a different way. The point from rereading the history is to identify the reason behind the work phenomena and the ethics, tradition, and how they were thinking about the job in old days to study the development of the work phenomena. In my opinion, this may reflect the insight of the development of the work attitudes and aptitudes. If I can analyze these factors, I can understand more also the development of the non-work factors behind the human choices for the career and the philosophy behind it. Some people want to work to satisfy their basic needs as Hardy, L. (1990) state, "If we are to survive, we must work" (p. 7).…

I am excited and very enthusiastic to begin and continue to work toward my goal and achieving my bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies. As strange as this may sounds before I decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies, I truly did not know if I ever wanted to attend college again. I already have an associate’s in arts, and with my military background I assumed I would be able to find a descent occupation after my military retirement. Also unfortunate, being in the military, there are times where I, or any other Soldiers will have to set their ambitions or goals aside to accomplish the mission of the military. Finally I am happy now that I can continue my road that God has laid out for me.…

Introduction to Music Studies One point that really resonated with me was in Dr. Carolyn Hart’s speech. She mentioned that sometimes God will block our intentions, our plans, with a red light in order to get us to turn in the direction He wants us to go. I was very encouraged and impacted by this idea, that particular week and the week before I had been feeling quite discouraged, I wasn’t feeling at home in Wheaton, I was feeling overwhelmed by the large workload and the (small) amount of sleep college life was providing. I did not know if I should continue with music or even at Wheaton, I was wondering if I should have stayed at my previous school, in my “comfort zone,” and just a couple weeks into the semester I was already contemplating switching majors.…

Let me get one thing straight: I’m not in the business of crying. Crying equals weakness, so like most wannabe men growing up, my ducts were as dry as my mom’s attempt at cornbread. Opening up the still slender book of my life and leafing through to a random page, ninety-five percent of the time, the mood would be positive. I’m not saying that my book lacks trials and tribulations or moments of misery, but on the whole, melancholy moments reside in the minority, not the majority. Now crack the spine of the book.…

The American dream is often thought of by the powerful phrase from the United States Declaration of Independence, which states in part “the preservation of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” What the signers of the Declaration of Independence acknowledged is that the preservation of these rights comes from endeavoring through hard work and dedication. Unfortunately, their idea of work has become alienated by modern economy and those who strive to earn more than their fair share without the necessary work to support their aspirations. The book Every Good Endeavor by Timothy Kelley with Katherine Leary Alsdorf captures these exact concepts.…

This was my life; an insecure student who had almost no friends, and even if he did, they weren’t really the best friends. They were more like acquaintances than friends.
