My Cruise To America Research Paper

One of the most meaningful experiences that I’ve encountered was this summer on my cruise to the U.S. Virgin Islands. It was a meaningful experience because it showed me what life is like outside a third-world country. It also made me realize that I am very fortunate of my life and how I have grown up. Making our way off the boat into this huge open warehouse to the streets of San Juan, I was frightened because of the things I've heard about San Juan. I was walking in the middle of my family not losing sight of my phone or purse. I was afraid I was going to get taken from my family. As we were going to the main street, we were bombarded by the villagers wanting to sell us things or take us on a tour of the island. While we were walking around we came across a huge flock of pigeons that smelt so bad. Some of them were fat, while others were skinny and looked like they were just taking out of a bowl of grease. The birds weren’t scared of people, if someone ran up to the pigeons, they would walk up to you and would get in the way. Once we got passed the flock of birds we passed these two homeless people that didn’t have an arm or leg that …show more content…
The buildings were all so colorful and bright. The color from the building brought life to this poor country. Every building was a different color than the one next to it. The streets were very long and narrow, made from a blue smooth brick. The city is very loud with all the car horns honking, people screaming from the other side of the street, and from all the kids playing in the parks. We walked to the end of the island to see the boats and fishermen. The boats looked very fragile and poorly developed. One of the small boats was connected to an anchor looked as if it was about to sink, it was tipped upside down with the top of it barely out of the water. The people of San Juan looked so happy and had this expression on their face that they weren’t facing hard

While I may have been raised in a small town in North Carolina and C.S. Lewis raised in Ireland, we both came to experience a great moment in both of our lives that had a lot of similarities. He was born in 1898 and I was born in 1998, I came in this world right at a year after he did. The amount of change that happened in the world during that time did not change the same key components of family, nature, and beauty that were all used in both of our special events. My experience with the Blyde River Canyon, was extremely similar to C.S. Lewis’s experience with the Toy Garden. My moment came when I was taken on a trip to south africa with my grandparents and my two younger cousins.…

It showed me that there was much much more to see and to explore in the world, even if it seems like it’s all the same. Sure, you can say that a beach is a beach or every place has that, but a beach in California isn’t going to be the same as a beach in Florida or a beach in Brazil. It may not have white sand and sapphire waters, but the beach in Charleston will always be my first beach. The storms I experienced in Charleston will always be the origin point of my interest in bizarre weather. Charleston certainly isn’t New York or Los Angeles by any means of comparison, but it’s a place that gave me something more to see than the standard Midwest visuals I’m accustomed…

Traveling to America can be difficult, sometimes even dangerous, but many immigrants say the real odyssey is adjusting to the culture shock that comes upon arrival. While adjusting may seem difficult, with the use of these two First, try to put yourself out there; Whether it be stating your opinion, joining a sports team, or even introducing yourself to someone new, every step towards making a oppurtunity gets you one step closer to making a new house a home. Some of us have never had the honor or privilege of going out of the United States of America to see the world. This summer I received that chance. In May of 2015 my mom told me, “We are going to see Ben and Samantha, “my Aunt and Uncle in the Dominican Republic. At first I was opposed to going, but as time went on I grew more and more excited about going on the trip. By June, everything was finalized and I was leaving to the Dominican Republic!…

America has always been a maritime nation. Our founders recognized the United States as one and knew the importance of having a maritime presence, so they wrote in our Constitution the requirement that Congress shall “maintain a Navy.” As a trading nation, the United States has always valued and defended the freedom to navigate the seas. One of the first missions of a young U.S. Navy was to protect the safe shipping of American commercial vessels through the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.…
