My Creation Story Essay

History has seen it's share of needless conflict and bloodbaths. For as long as history has been recorded, our ancestors held zeal and fervor towards causes which are no more than speculation and assumed realities. Our ancestors have killed, been killed, tortured, and were tortured over the "correct" interpretation, the "correct" faith, over who's ignorance wielded the sharpest sword. Faith is dubbed as one of the most driving causes of war, in itself among the most heartbreaking of realities. To slay a breathing individual with a family and believed purpose of their own, for a belief in a supernatural concept which may very well be a delusion, is a heart wrenching sorrow indeed. It seems that we as humans long for purpose and meaning, making …show more content…

In those days, creation stories gave our ancestors a false sense of meaning, a purpose for living which ignited zeal into their hearts as well as the heart of the entire community. Just as the ancient religions, the same pattern is seen with the major world religions of today. Now, I am not implying that these religions are indisputably false, but rather what I am implying, is that to base your passion, lifestyle, and purpose upon concepts which may never become more than speculation, is unwise just as it is hazardous.
While there may not be a definite solution for the world today, there are considerations and points that have the potential to enlighten it. To show you my meaning, I will have to give you a look into my past. There was a time when I did not question the authority of the Roman Catholic Church and her Bible. I was indoctrinated

GH In history we observe the tragedies that befall those who trust too blindly in the truth of faith and religion. Wars are fought every day because of different opinions, and we as humans feel that our beliefs are the best, and are the most true. We stand our ground and fight for what we believe in, but times in history we don’t see the typical wars, or disputes, or destruction caused by faith and conflicting religion. We sometimes see that faith can begin to attack itself, like an autoimmune disease attacking it’s own body.…

According to Volume 3 of the Encyclopedia of Wars, Philip and Axelrod’s research proves that of 1,763 wars waged over the course of human history, 123 (6.98%) of them were caused by religious differences (Phillips). Albeit, the percentage may be incredibly low, approximately 195,035,000 people died in the name of religion.(Not counting the three million people who were tragically killed in the Crusades and the six million Jews killed in the Holocaust during WWII). Furthermore, with dissimilar ideas of transcendental forces, it causes a divide between people; separating them into different groups. And because of their incompatibility with others, it gives them a ‘justification’ for killing others and a promise of rewarded martyrs. Therefore, due to the differences in belief of deities and/or supernatural entities, and techniques, the presence of oppression and war has remained in…

Can the Christian faith be seen as a contributor to more peaceful environment? With that question in mind, I’m articulating some of the important resources for creating and sustaining the culture of peace by eradicating violence. I am not, however, trying to argue that Christianity doesn’t endorse violence or at least historically, less associated with violence than any other religions in the world. This argument is neither necessary or relevant to my point. Arguments about religion, God and violence touch our lives in close proximity following one’s religious identity, fervor and motivation provided by the faith itself.…

We humans are inquisitive by nature, it is in fact what sets us apart from other animals on this planet. Since our exodus from the African continent we have always wanted to know what was beyond that hill, our desire to learn as much as possible has allowed us to make advancements in technology and create civilizations. But this desire to learn had also extended to the machinations of nature, and in response we created religions as an explanation to the creation of the universe. Religion was useful for many centuries as our understanding of nature was limited to what we saw, but our sight is very limited and cannot fully comprehend the scale of the universe. 2,000 years ago we believed that the Earth was the center and all the stars and planets…

It seems that every day there is a new report about the latest act of terror or brutality occurring somewhere in the world. That connection is religion. Religion has become, just like talking politics at Thanksgiving, taboo.…

As my grandpa walked into the dreary kitchen, he rolled up his sleeves and began to pull paper plates from our old cupboard like he had every Friday night since grandma got sick. Friday was pizza night. He finished cutting the greasy delicious pizza, that the local pizza place couldn’t, and plopped a piece on three plates. One plate for me, one for grandma, and one for himself. Friday was the only night grandma would allow me to eat in front of the TV, and not force me to talk about school or whatever sport I was playing at the time.…
