My Comp Class

After completing my second semester of Comp, I can honestly say that overall, I have enjoyed myself. I am proud of the work that I put in and feel that my grade best reflects the effort that I have put forth the last four months. One of the most memorable things that I am going to take from this class, is the ability to sprinkle lecture with humor in order to keep your audience’s attention. Because of this technique, I was able to learn so much more than if I would have taken this course over a computer screen or listened to some monotoned man drone on for forty five minutes at the beginning of each day. Although I don’t normally like poetry, I was able to really dig into our major paper and feel that I have such a better understanding of poetry than what I did in the past. Our final paper on film taught me that I really enjoy films that I never would have otherwise watched and to be more open to learning new things.
At the beginning of the year, I was afraid of what I thought Comp was going to be like. I expected long, boring lectures and papers over topics that I couldn’t possibly begin to understand. There was also some worry about how hard of a teacher I was going to have and how hard the assignments were going to be. I didn’t think that I could do it honestly. But after

This proved to be one of the more challenging papers that I have done in Comp. It wasn’t that I didn’t understand it, I just hate sounding like I am repeating myself just to meet page requirements and don’t want to fill my paper with useless information. Although it was hard, I still believe that I did a good job of showing a stereotype in film that has not otherwise been mentioned. I enjoyed the films we watched in class very much. They were interesting and out of the ordinary. I definitely would not have picked them myself, and that is one of the biggest things that I have learned; branch out and try new things because you never know what you’ll

This “narcissistic centrality of white, masculine, middle class identity” dominating the cinema is dejectedly still prominent today (Pajaczkowska & Young, Kaplan, 2000, p.359). Although there is a definite improvement with racial diversity, it is clear that the caucasian man and woman monopolise the scene. As said by Tasker “gender and race are important elements within the genre’s articulation of…

Society Film Analysis Movies are very prevalent in discussing issues in today’s society. By using anthropology, sociology, and psychology, one is able to connect films to any issue. The films American history x, Crash, Cry Freedom, The Pianist and Pleasantville all display different social issues, such as discrimination, conformity and charismatic leaders. Discrimination is prejudicial thoughts acted out towards anyone, usually based on his or her race and ethnicity. Anthropologists can look towards structuralism and the complex rules that determine what are good and bad, in order to know how discrimination can be spreading in a society.…

There are many ways to classify film noir, but in order to condense it for the purposes of writing the EE, I have chosen specific aspects to asses. Roger Ebert, noted film critic and former writer for the Chicago-Sun Times classifies film noir using 10 distinct aspects (some important ones are listed below) (RogerEbert.com): o At no point does the film trick the viewer into thinking there will be a happy resolution, there is always a sense of a bleak outlook o Love and death are highly connected o Locations in the film that allude to the night, to alleyways, and “taxi drivers and bartenders who have seen it all” This source is valuable because it provides insight into the viewpoints of an influential film reviewer about this genre of films. It also has limitations due to the fact that it only presents one opinion on the topic.…

My Junior year of high school was my challenging year, the reason to that is because we had to study for our Act also we had our grad MCAs to take. I must say it was really difficult knowing that we had those two big major tests in the same week. The amount of studying was ridiculous but in my head for a whole two months I was reminding myself that it will benefit me in the future that I need this to graduate. One part I didn 't have to worry was a portion of the MCA like the Algebra part. But the part that was extremely hard for me was geometry.…
